The first of 20 games for the eight years of age and under youngsters will go Boxing Day, December 26 at 8:30 a.m. with the host team, the Exeter Waxers meeting Parkhill. The Waxers will be right back at it two hours later taking on Lambeth. The finals will be played Wednesday, December 27 with the B, A and AA set for 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Competing in the AA division are teams from South London, Oakridge and Galt. A complete schedule for the tournament appears elsewhere in this issue. There is one group of young men from Ontario who will be concentrating more on hockey than eating come Christmas Day. They are members of the Ontario junior all-stars who will be participating in a practice session at the London Gardens come Monday morning. They are one of five teams taking part in the Labatt International major all star tournament. The other clubs are from Quebec, Western Canada, the Canadian Olympic team and the Moscow Dynamos. Three of the 13 tourney games will be played at the London Gardens. They are December 26 — West against Quebec; December 30 — OH A vs Moscow Dynamos and the championship game featuring the two top clubs on January 3. All games in London will start at 8 p.m. London Knights representatives on the OHA team are forwards Bill Carroll and Dean Hopkins. The OHA coach is Gary Green from the Peter borough Petes. The Christmas Day practice in London will be only the third for the OHA team. They play their first game the following night in Windsor against the Olympic team. The other games are divided between Ottawa, Brantford, Kitchener and Niagara Falls. 4 missing jello The Toronto Blue Jays should probably get in touch with Bill Cosby and his cohorts on the Jello ad for television. The Blue Jays recently acquired a lemon Jello. Well, that’s pretty close. The Toronto club got a new pitcher by the name of Mark Lemongello but they have been unable to get in touch with him. Lemongello was apparently less than enthusiastic about taking his pitching talents north of the border and has been unavailable when Blue Jays general manager Pat Gillett and pitching coach Bob Miller tried to get in touch with him. We certainly hope Lemongello changes his mind and decides to join the Blue Jays. His presence may make up a little for the loss of Victor Cruz. The Blue Jays front office has had very little success in convincing the Toronto press and fans that they made a good move in trading Cruz. Cruz appeared in close to 30 games during the latter stages of the 1978 season as a relief pitcher and compiled an earned run average of 1.72. Management has been trying to alibi by saying Cruz is three years older than he was supposed to be and not as good as his past season record showed. Cruz appeared to be a hard throwing youngster and the only efficient reliever Roy Hartsfield could call from the bull pen. The trade which brought Lemongello to Toronto may help the pitching staff but it did the opposite for the department behind the plate. Allan Ashby was lost in the same deal. He was one of the top defensive catchers in the American league and no one took any liberties on the bases when Ashby was ready to cut them down trying to steal. Prediction department For the benefit of any fans of the National football league we will make our predictions for the Super Bowl, so, you can go and bet on the opposition. How about the Pittsburg Steelers and Los Angeles Rams going for all the marbles in Miami on Sunday, January 21. We will call the Wolverines of Michigan to finally win a Rose Bowl by beating Southern California by a score of 27-23 on New Year’s Day. To all our readers we would like to wish a very Blessed Christmas and a Year. . The ExeterWaxers, preparing for the annual I Christmas tournament at > the rec centre, ran their win streak to three in a row when they crushed Lambeth 6-2, Sunday. It was the most decisive win of the season for the local novice crew, who demonstrated a strong fore checking game to score four unassisted tallies. Jeff Dalrymple started the crew off with two goals in the first period, when he knocked down passes and raced in all alone on the Lambeth net. Waxers win again, ready for big tourney Steve Lingard upped the lead to 3-0 when he took a pass from Jon O’Connor and neatly deked around two defenders and blasted a hard shot to the top corner. The teams traded two goals each in the early minutes of the third period, with Rob McKnight out- skating a defender to go in alone andJon O’Connor pick ed up the other when his shot from beside the net deflected past the goalie. O’Connor scored his se cond goal late in the game when he was sent into the clear on a pass from B.J. Batten. This year’s novice tourna ment in Exeter will feature a different format, although the excitement generated by the six, seven and eight year-olds is expected to be as high as usual. Rather than a knock-out type of schedule, the teams in all three divisions will be playing for the four top spots that will put them into the championship or consolation finals. The top two teams will play for the championship, while the next two teams will compete in the consola- tion round. The goal spread will be used to determine any ties that may exist between teams with iden tical points. The event gets underway on Tuesday when the Exeter Waxers tackle Parkhill in an 8:30 a.m. start. They’re in the “B” division, along with Dorchester, Seaforth and Lambeth. Exeter meets Lambeth in their second game at 10:30. The “A” division teams start their action at 1:30 when Strathroy battles Walkerton. The other five teams entered in that divi- give some of the lesser- lights a chance to get in on that thrilling action. Shirley Pratt is convening this year’s tournament which is sponsored by the Exeter Minor Hockey Association. Happy and Joyous New INTERMEDIATE HOCKEY O.H.A. The championship and consolation events for the “A” and “B” divisions will also be held on Wednesday and the final game features the top two “AA” teams. The winner gets the cham pionship and the loser will be declared the consolation winner. Another feature of this year’s tournament is a penalty shot contest after each game. Five players from each team will be chosen to compete and the results will be used to break ties if necessary. Coaches have been asked to keep their super-stars on the bench for that event and i EXETER NOVICE TOURNAMENT South Huron Rec Centre Tuesday, December 26 Exeter vs Parkhill Dorchester vs Seaforth Exeter vs Lambeth Dorchester vs Parkhill Seaforth vs Lambeth Strathroy vs Walkerton Hanover vs Tillsonburg Listowel vs Elmira Walkerton vs St. Marys Tillsonburg vs Strathroy Hanover vs Elmira St. Marys vs Listowel Game 1 Game 2 GamQ3 Game 4 Game 5 Game 6 Game 7 Game 8 Game 9 Game 10 Game 11 Game 12 firemen, Trees win in Rec loop WAXERS READY — As evidenced by the damp hair generated by a strenuous practice, the Exeter Waxers are working hard for their appearance in the annual novice tournament to be held at the rec centre this Tuesday and Wednesday.
