Revision of Rates for the
Town of Exeter
Due to the higher cost of providing service,
Exeter Public Utilities Commission has found
it necessary to increase its electrical rates
for 1979 as of January 1st.
Our cost for bulk power from Ontario
Hydro has increased by 9.8%. However,
due to favourable economic factors and ex
port sales experienced in 1978, Ontario
Hydro will pass on to the Exeter Public
Utilities Commission a rebate estimated to
b? $41,899.00. This rebate which will be
spread over the entire year has reduced
your increase for electricity to an average
of 6.6%.
It is not expected that this "windfall" will
occur every year and it is possible that an
increase Jn rates for 1980 could be con
siderably higher.
Subject to Approval by Ontario Hydro

Church news
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted
the service for the second
Sunday in Advent and took
the text for his sermon from
John 11, v. 56, using the
theme “Oh the wonder of it
all”. Christ is being crowded
out of Christmas said Rev.
Morden.
Department stores with
their dazzling displays to
tempt you to buy gifts you
can’t afford, Christmas is
big business, this
sacrilegiousness has turned
Christ’s birthday into a
holiday rather than a Holy
day.
As the service was con
ceited last Sunday owing to
weather conditions, the first
and second candles in the
Advent wreath were lit. Julie
McRobert and Joanne Goos
performed the ceremony.
The Sunday School pupils
took part in a unique tree
decorating ceremony by
placing religious symbols
made of white styrofoam and
gold tinsel on the tree at the
front of the church. Each
symbol was explained to the
congregation by the older
pupils.
Leroy Bryan, chairman of
the board of stewards gave a
report on the financial
success of the recent beef
dinner sponsored by the
stewards and also thanked
the social convener of the
general UCW, the ladies
serving on the Board of
Stewards and .all the units of
the UCW for helping to make
the project a great success.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church Rev. Mary Mills
conducted the service for the
second Sunday in Advent and
took her sermon from
Revelations which was a
review of the miracles about
the burning bush and Moses
and the plagues.
Charlene and Paul Acres
performed the ceremony of
lighting the first and second
candles in the Advent
wreath.
