CARMEL 237-3456 By JOY SCHEIFELE The congregation atten ding the community service of music at the Ailsa Craig United Church Sunday even ing was surprised and delighted when the four local clerics joined forces in an unprecedented manner. ‘‘The Uncalled Four”, as they have dubbed themselves, proved ver satile and creative as they presented the Gospel “What Is This I Hear?” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” took on new meaning as the Rev. David Brunner of the Nairn Men- nonite Church, Rev. Kenneth Hayes of the Ailsa Craig Baptist Church, Rev. Alex Simpson of the Ailsa Craig Presbyterian Church and Peter Snell of the United Church made a strong quartet. This was the second such community service of song at the United Church and in spite of dense fog and slippery roads, the church was three quarters filled. Both the junior and senior choirs of the United Church took part. Richard Graham played two trumpet solos and the Christianview Bible College orchestra also presented a number of pieces accompanied by Peter Snell on the guitar. Duets were sung by Peter and Cathy Snell, Betty Sutherland and Cathy Snell and Isobel Stokes and Betty Sutherland. The congregation also joined together for several numbers. Mrs. M. Wadsworth, organist, ac companied on the organ. |JI will lolflllOO' FURNITURE SALE Eli&beth Arden brings you Brighton. nt fioyu/ Pa»Um m Entland, u ««<•/ <*« aaudan o) the ,««*>« Hkomi ej the MtdeniKiai’ c, the KmIwv, The Refatey PerteJ w Ehflaed aethvd, tpeeaJtnt tie onaual clepatM »Ki> archueamr, furralurt, and porcelaua. Puppets "Louis St. Foy" (the executive producer and M.C.) and dog, Hector (who is Louis' cousin) get acquainted with Carrie and Troy before the show. Photo by Scheifele Puppet presentation By JOY SCHEIFELE “Punchinell, Punchinello, who’s that funny fellow?” some of the children were chanting as they entered the upstairs hall over the Ailsa Craig Library last Saturday afternoon. Sponsored by the Regional Library services, the Punchinello Adult Puppet Theatre Group thoroughly delighted its audience of over a hundred children. Behind the specially built puppet stage Hansel and Gretel came alive to delight the audience. The ugly wicked witch once again got herself destroyed by her own evil in tentions while the colourful Hansel and Gretel were reunited with their loving parents. A few songs sung by 2-D puppets rounded out the program. Although the audience consisted mostly of children and a few parents, the group is designed for adult puppet theatre. It was established last January on a Canada Works grant. “We are dedicated to establishing a permanent puppet theatre in London” explained Bernie Martin, manager of the group. Five young people make up the group and each carries wide respon sibilities. They create their own puppets, scenery, lighting and write their own material. “We have five different family shows we do”, ex plained Bernie. “One of our basic objectives is to stimulate public awareness of puppetry as an art form. To limit puppetry to the role of children’s entertainment, and in particular a t.v. phenomena, is to deny the public an extremely ver satile and expressive medium.” 35 Our Reg.
