The vice-president Mrs. J. McCormick took charge of the meeting which opened by the singing of a Christ­ mas hymn and a prayer. SUMMERS GRANTON Happy Gang members and friends met at the United Church Wednesday af­ ternoon for their annual mid­ day Christmas dinner of hot turkey and all the trim­ mings, followed by pie, birthday cake and homemade candy. This sumptuous meal was prepared and served by Unit 3 of the U.C.W. Mrs. Harold Westman welcomed everyone and presided over a short business meeting. A Carol-sing was enjoyed with Mrs. Chas. Gowan at the piano followed by card games, euchre and crokinole. Those with bir­ thdays in November and December were honored with their names on the cake, They were Arthur Roloson, Wreatha Burnett, Eileen Summers, George Round, Veronica Mitchell, Elsie Dann, Nora Wissel and Elmer Summers. In his Christmas message, Rev. Elwood Morden used the theme "The love that lives”. When the Angels sang "Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men’’ dtwas a message for all of us, in our everyday living experiences, said Rev. Morden. To many, Christ­ mas is a time to count your blessing in dollars, feasting and indulging. This Season should be for all Christians, a celebration of Hope and Love. FRED BOWDEN In the United Church, Sun­ day the service was in recognition of the work of the Canadian Bible Society. "The Living Word of God” was the topic chosen by Mr. Paul Schott for his sermon. What is the Bible? — It is not just a book of history but should be a personal posses­ sion forming the chain that links us to our Saviour. It is a book of faith providing light for the lost, comfort for the aged and grace for the Christian. It is the book of life and if we read the entire book there are references to meet all our needs. The choir sang an anthem and the children’s story was told by Mrs, Schott. "White Gift Sunday” will be observed this coming Sunday. Personals Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Borden Smyth who has received word of the death of her grandmother, the late Mrs. Florence Dean, in Birch Grove, Nova Scotia. Mr._ and Mrs. Bill John­ son, Chatham were weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Greb and Sunday they were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kerslake, Exeter. All attended the service in the United Church. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cun­ nington and family, Thames Road were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Fred Cunnington. Prizes were awarded as follows — Ladies’ high score - Mrs. Jack Dickins; Lone hands - Mrs. Tom Kooy; Low - Mrs. Roy Hodgins. Men’s high - Percy Noels; Lone hands - Tom Kooy; Low - Neil Langford. The travelling prize was won by Chas. Rollings. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice MacDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickens will con­ vene the next party.
