were Jeannie Pavkeje,
Linda Wilson, Jane Sullivan,
Joan Klemke, Janet Shap-
ton. To Mrs. Don Finkbeiner
was awarded a five year
leadership certificate.
Zion United
Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner
represented Zion United
Church at the Presbytery
meeting, Dungannon,
Tuesday.
Flowers in the sanctuary
for the Sunday morning
services were in memory of
Fred Brown and Mrs. Sam
Lawson.
Personals
Mrs. Robert Palmer,
Ottawa, spent several days
with her parents, Mr. & Mrs.
Emmery Fahrner.
Crediton’s volunteer
firemen enjoyed a Christmas
dinner Saturday evening in
the community hall.
Members of the Women’s
Institute catered.
Nola Faist and Rev. &
Mrs. Fred Faist, Stratford,
spent the American
Thanksgiving with Mr. &
Mrs. Ronald Zophy of
Rochester, Michigan.
Not far from Rochester is
Frankenmuth, famed for its
Old World architecture, its
Christmas stores and its
chicken dinners. The Faists
found Frankenmuth
thronged, both in the stores
and in the dining halls.
Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Lamport
enjoyed a six-day trip to
Jamaica. Members of the
party wore name plates and
Mr. Lamport’s proved to be
of interest. He learned why.
Lloyd is a popular name
among Jamaicans.
The food, roast beef, pork
and chicken, was good,
accommodation and service
superb. Only men are
waiters. Women perform
maid service in the rooms.
The visitors saw a home
owned by Johnny Cash, and
one once occupied by
Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
It contains many priceless
antiques. Kingston was
avoided because of obvious
anti-white feeling there. A
swim in the Caribbean was
an experience to treasure in
one’s memory.
Before Itheir arrival there
had been heavy rains. As a
result, vegetation was
abundant and green, and
flowers at their best. A tiny
toad-like creature filled the
night air with its song.
The temperature was 82
degrees the day they
arrived, 85 degrees when
they left,In spite of the heat,
Jamaicans do not dress so
scantily as some Canadians
do in the summer time. Some
of the party hesitated
wearing the shorts they had
taken with them.
At the home of Mr. & Mrs.
Ken Campbell Friday
evening there was a
gathering to honour retiring
Stephen reeve Cecil
Desjardine. Present were
Mr. & Mrs. Desjardine, the
clerk-treasurer, councillors,
road superintendent and
their wives, and former
reeve Joe Dietrich with his
son Paul.
The evening was spent
playing cards and table
games and singing* Lunch
was served. A barometer
was presented to Mr.
Desjardine with an attached
plaque indicating the
number of years of his
service to the community.
