Christie, Jackie Sillivan, Harriet Martens. To Mrs. Don Finkbeiner was awarded a five year leadership certificate. Zion United Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner represented Zion United Church at the Presbytery meeting, Dungannon, Tuesday. Flowers in the sanctuary for the Sunday morning services were in memory of Fred Brown and Mrs. Sam Lawson. Personals Mrs. Robert Palmer, Ottawa, spent several days with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Emmery Fahrner. Crediton’s volunteer firemen enjoyed a Christmas dinner Saturday evening in the community hall. Members of the Women’s Institute catered. Nola Faist and Rev. & Mrs. Fred Faist, Stratford, spent the American Thanksgiving with Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Zophy of Rochester, Michigan. Not far from Rochester is Frankenmuth, famed for its Old World architecture, its Christmas stores and its chicken dinners. The Faists found Frankenmuth thronged, both in the stores and in the dining halls. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Lamport enjoyed a six-day trip to Jamaica. Members of the party wore name plates and Mr. Lamport’s proved to be of interest. He learned why. Lloyd is a popular name among Jamaicans. The food, roast beef, pork and chicken, was good, accommodation and service superb. Only men are waiters. Women perform maid service in the rooms. The visitors saw a home owned by Johnny Cash, and one once occupied by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. It contains many priceless antiques. Kingston was avoided because of obvious anti-white feeling there. A swim in the Caribbean was an experience to treasure in one’s memory. Before Itheir arrival there had been heavy rains. As a result, vegetation was abundant and green, and flowers at their best. A tiny toad-like creature filled the night air with its song. The temperature was 82 degrees the day they arrived, 85 degrees when they left,In spite of the heat, Jamaicans do not dress so scantily as some Canadians do in the summer time. Some of the party hesitated wearing the shorts they had taken with them. At the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ken Campbell Friday evening there was a gathering to honour retiring Stephen reeve Cecil Desjardine. Present were Mr. & Mrs. Desjardine, the clerk-treasurer, councillors, road superintendent and their wives, and former reeve Joe Dietrich with his son Paul. The evening was spent playing cards and table games and singing* Lunch was served. A barometer was presented to Mr. Desjardine with an attached plaque indicating the number of years of his service to the community.
