The Listowel Cyclones opened the scoring early in the first period but Hensall came back strong with three goals, the first by Ron May assisted by Terry Bedard and Brian Baker. Three minutes later Steve Grainger scored from Dave Cann, Dave Cann finished the scoring in the first period assisted by Grant Love and Steve Grainger. The Cyclones came back in the second period to score three goals but Grant Love picked up a pass by Darrell Preszcator and fired it past the goalie to keep Hensall ahead. At the 4:37 mark Steve Grainger scored again unassisted. In the third period, Listowel tied the game 5-5 and it looked like it would be the fourth tie game for Hensall, but Ron May scored an unassisted goal with 1.17 left in the game to make it 6- 5. The Cyclones pulled their goalie and applied strong offensive pressure but the excellent defence play of Bob Mommersteeg and Darrell Preszcator held them off to the end. Sherwoods beat Thedford The Hensall Sherwoods in their only start of the week defeated Thedford 10-7 Thursday. Scoring two goals apiece for the Sherwoods were Al Taylor and Steve Knight. It was a close game right from the start with Thedford leading 3-2 at the end of the first, while by the end of the second period the game was knotted at five all. Scoring the other goals for Hensall were Brian Camp­ bell, Jim Ferguson, Rick Ingram, Lloyd Allan, Larry Bourne and Dan Crerar. The Hensall juveniles came up with a loss Friday night against Brussels. The game started with both teams trading goals, Brussels scoring first and Hensall goal coming from Rob Pryde assisted by Dave Oesch. The Brussels team were hard to stop and scored two more goals before Steve Grainger scored from Grant Love leaving Brussels ahead 4-2. Grant Love then narrowed the score on an unassisted goal, but Brussels came on strong and fired three straight goals past the Hensall goalie. Hensall finished the scoring with two goals, one a break away by Dave Cann assisted by Grant Love and the last goal by Grant Love, his second of the game to end the game at 7-5. Hensall goes to Listowel Wednesday and plays at home again Friday night against Milverton. Two Exeter teams failed in their bids to bring home silverware from area tour­ naments over the weekend. The local bantams took turns watching from the penalty box as Blenheim beat them 4-3 in overtime in the Ilderton semi-finals, while the Exeter Waxers were clipped 3-0 by Mt. Brydges in the "B” final of the Parkhill novice event. The bantams served 32 minutes in penalties and blew a 3-1 lead in their Saturday contest with Blenheim to fall to the sidelines in Ilderton. Blenheim knotted the count with two power play goals in the third period and then scored the winner after three minutes in the sudden death overtime. Bill Glover, Dave Shaw and Mike Clark tallied the Exeter markers, with Shaw and Scott Brintnell picking up the assists. In their only other outing of the week, the locals scored a 6-0 whitewash over Lucan at the rec centre, Wednesday, with Peter Dearing getting the shutout. The scoring was spread out with Scott Brintnell, Jim Siddall, Bill Glover, Dave Shaw, Dave Underwood and Scott Pincombe notching singles. Tom Coates had a pair of assists to lead in that department. The penalty prone squad picked up eight minors, four ■ for roughing, while Lucan served four minors. Waxers Busy The Exeter Waxers had an extremely busy week, play­ ing five contests, including three in the Saturday novice tournament at Parkhill where they battled their way into the ‘B’ championship game. They dropped the opening tilt to Forest by a 5-1 verdict and then came back with an impressive 5-2 win over Strathroy to enter the final against Mt. Brydges, losing that one by a 3-0 margin. Rob McKnight scored the only goal in the opener, finishing off a play with Rob McLean and Jon O’Connor. The Waxers jumped into a quick 3-0 lead against Strathroy in the second out­ ing and then matched their last half of the tilt. Jon O’Connor paced the attack with a pair of un­ assisted tallies, while the singles came off the sticks of Jeff Dalrymple, Allan Blommaert and B. J. Batten. Scott Boyd and Jarett Kobe drew assists on the first career goals for Batten and Blommaert. In the final, the Waxers lost the services of leading scorer Jon O’Connor due to illness and had the wind taken out of their sails early in the contest when Mt. Brydges scored after only 15 seconds of play on their way to the three-goal triumph. The Waxers split a pair of Shamrock league tilts dur­ ing the busy week as well, dropping a 6-0 affair to Lucan on Wednesday and then posting a 2-0 win over Dorchester on Sunday. Terry Ouimet scored three times to pace the Bond added a pair. Goalie Shawn Moore played a stellar game in the nets on Sunday to record the shutout as the Waxers stopped Dorchester. Moore had key saves on three breakaways. Jon O’Connor gave the locals a 1-0 lead near the end of the second period on a play with Rob McLean and Allan Blommaert, while Steve Lingard capped a solid performance with the clincher in the dying stages of the contest with McLean and Doug Clark drawing the assists. Pee Wees Lose The local pee wees dropped a hard-fought 5-3 loss to Lucan in their only outing of the week. Jeff Shipley and Brent Banner- man paced the winners’ at­ tack with two-goal efforts, while the single came from Jesse Crawford. Steve Batten was a two- goal man for the Exeter crew and the single was fired home by Steve Laithwaite. George Pratt had a pair of assists, while singles were recorded by John Wells and Darren Vandergunst. Atoms Post Win The Exeter atoms snapped their losing streak with a 2-0 shutout win over Dorchester, Sunday. Jim Lewis and Steve Pym shared the netminding duties in the whitewash. Trevor Boyle and Terry Zachar scored the markers, the latter blasting a shot from the slot on a perfect setup by Sean Whiteford. Hockey •. . This may help. * has The Lucan-Ilderton Jets were trounced in one On­ tario Hockey Association Continental senior game this week but came back to score one victory. In Petrolia Friday night the Jets were blanked 5-0 by the defending champion Petrolia Squires. Sunday afternoon at the Ilderton arena they regained their winning ways as they edged the Woodstock Royals 3-1, This week, the Jets are in­ volved in a home and home series with the same Woodstock Royals. They meet in Ilderton Friday night at 8:15 and back in Woodstock Sunday evening at7 p.m. The first half of Sunday’s game between the Jets and Woodstock was scoreless. The Lucan-Ilderton club moved into the lead with two late second period scores. Ed Robb put an end to the scoring famine with a successful shot at 14:53 of the middle frame on a three- way effort with Jamie Robb and Steve Proctor, Less than 5-Q minutes later, GregRobertsuppedthe score 2-0 as he put the puck behind Sonny Pennington in the Woodstock net on a play started by Ed Parkinson. Steve Degurse, former playing coach of the Jets fired the only Woodstock score of the night at 14:25 of the third period on a power play. With Woodstock putting on the pressure and six forwards, Ed Robb hit the empty Royals net with only 14 seconds remaining to assure the victory. Lome Daer turned in a strong effort in the Jets net as he stopped all but one of 43 shots. .Pennington at the other end faced 38 shots. Illness, injuries and work commitments reduced the Jets playing roster to nine players which included two goal tenders in Friday’s 9-0 loss to Petrolia. John Robertson in the L-I net was bombarded by 58 shots while the Petrolia net- minder faced only 15 shots. Bill Abercrombie led the Petrolia scoring attack with a four goal performance. Scoring in single fashion were Barry Edgar, Dick Rankin, Dale Wilson, Ron . Wilson and Doug Zonneville.
