Atoms lose pair The Exeter atoms main­ tained their losing ways when they were drubbed by Strathroy 7-1 and 5-1 in a pair of weekend tilts. Sean Whiteford scored the only goal in the loss at Strathroy, while Brett Batten potted the lone goal in the home defeat, with the assist going to Terry Zachar. Netminders Steve Pym and Jim Lewis faced a steady barrage of shots in the tilts. Scoreless draw The Exeter and Strathroy novice teams skated off the ice to a resounding ivation at the rec centre. That’s the best word to describe the Zurich Buckeyes victory in the “A” final of eight team in­ termediate hockey tour­ nament held over the weekend in Hensail. The Buckeyes took the $400 top prize for their efforts. Zurich fought its way into the top grouping of the tournament which was sponsored by the Hensall Minor Athletic Association by defeating Hensall by a margin of 31-27 in shots on goal, outscoring Monkton 7-4 and in the final game edging Parkhill 4-3. Spokesman for the Athletic Association, Bill Taylor said they were very pleased with the way the tournament turned out with a good chance that the tournament will be held next year. Taking the “B” title was a team from Exeter made up of Pfaff Electric and the Les Pines from the Exeter Rec league. In the defeated take the division.
