The Hawks led 10-0 at one The Exeter Hawks ran their unbeaten streak to seven games with a pair of victories this week. The wins pulled them to within two points of the front run ning Mitchell Hawks and gave them a comfortable eight point margin over Seaforth and Tavistock who are tied for the third posi tion in the northern group ing. Lucan brings up the rear in the division with nine points, but will be out to im prove that when they travel to the rec centre for a Fri day night contest with the Hawks at 8:00 p.m. . Exeter posted a 4-0 win over Seaforth in their first outing this week on home ice and then bombed the Mt. Brydges Cougars by an 11-3 margin, Saturday. While the win over Seaforth opened up a wide gap for the Hawks, it was a costly victory as veteran Fred Mommersteeg suf fered a broken collar bone and will be out of the lineup for the next five or six weeks. Steve Wells, up from the local midgets, recorded the shutout, the first one for the Hawks this season. His cohorts gave him plenty of protection as they allowed the visitors only .17 shots, while peppering twice 282 Main Street South, Exeter, Ontario KAWASAKI 340 INVADER Hop aboard the hottest 340 on snow. Don McKellar and Kerry Bedard helped out on the first of Caldwell’s pair, while McKellar drew an assist on the second when he and Caldwell were killing a penalty. Taylor came back with his second of the night near the end of the third on another power play, with Dave Atthill and Dave Bogart drawing the assists. Seaforth picked up 13 of the 23 minor penalties called in the tilt. Save heads As expected, the Hawks dominated their Saturday night tilt with the hapless Mt. Brydges squad, and even managed to escape with their scalps as the Cougars started rough-house activities when the game was out of reach on the score board. That was early in the game as the Hawks took a 4- 0 first period lead and they still managed seven more despitehaving to concentrate more on defending themselves than scoring. Mt. Brydges ended up with 22 penalties, including two misconducts, two majors and a large number for roughing. The Hawks battled back in kind with 15 penalties, in cluding one major.
