HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1978-11-30, Page 7Anniversary fete at Huronview honors former area residents Alfred and Dora Buchanan of Huronview, celebrated their 60th wedding anniver­ sary Saturday with a recep­ tion for relatives and friends. The couple was married in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1918. They met while both were work­ ing on a farm there during the harvest season. Mr. Buchanan, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. An­ drew Buchanan of Hensall had gone west on a harvest excursion. His wife-to-be, Dora Covey, was helping to prepare the meals for the harvest workers. Dora had come to Canada from England in 1904 when nine years old. The family later moved to a farm near Moose Jaw. Dora and Alfred were married and lived near Moose Jaw and then moved in 1922 to farm east of Hen­ sall in Usborne Township. In 1941 they moved to farm at Constance in Hullett Township until retiring to Clinton in 1960. Now residents of Huron­ view they both are confined to wheel chairs. He is 86 and she is 84. Mrs. Buchanan still enjoys knitting. “With 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren it’s easy to keep busy,” she said. The couple has five sons, and they all were home for the occasion, Wilfred of Ilderton; Donald, HR 1, Londesboro; Gordon and Keith of British Columbia; and Fred of RR 2, Seaforth and as well a daughter Joyce, Mrs. Jerry Carter of Clinton. REGIERS Albert and Mary Regier celebrated their 60th wed­ ding anniversary at Huron- view on Tuesday,November 28. They had a family get- together in the summer to celebrate the occasion. Mr. Regier, 86, is a son of the late Elizabeth (Krauskopf) and John Regier. Mrs. Regier, 77, is a daughter of the late Maryann (Miller) and Mark Wild. The couple married on November 28,1918, at Mount Carmel, took up farming in Stephen Township west of Crediton. In 1965 they retired to Centralia where they lived for eight years. For the past five years they have been residents of Huronview. They both enjoy reading and Mrs. Regier keeps busy with knitting and sewing as well. “Our children keep us young,” she remarked. They had a family of 16 children, with 14 surviving, 75 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Their sons are Jerome, Walkerton; Leo, Mount Carmel; Raymond, Loring; Wilfred, Creemore; Orilla, Utopia; Donald, Ripley; John, Kincardine; Joseph, Crediton and Phillip, Ex­ eter. Their daughters are, Laura, Mrs. Glen Cyphery, Georgetown; Rita, Mrs. Herman Quick, Comber; Cecilia, Mrs. Earl Gardner, Newmarket; Ruth, Mrs. Robert Duffy, Dublin; Eileen, Mrs. Hank Goeree, Hamilton and Charlotte Regier, Hamilton. Norman and Marie are deceased. Mrs. Ruth Butt and Mrs. Evelyn Reid of Palmerston spent Saturday with Mrs. Verna Truemner and Mrs. Betty Johnston. AND MRS. TIMOTHY TURNBULL Joanne Elizabeth Hotson and Timothy Allan Turnbull were un­ ited in marriage on October 28, 1978 at the Grand Bend Gospel Hall. Mr. Alan Adams officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hotson, RR 1, Grand Bend and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Turnbull, RR 1, Grand Bend are parents of the groom. The maid of honour was Marg Turnbull and bridesmaids were Deb Ferguson and Becky Turnbull. The best man was Joe Hotson and guests were ushered by Kerry Ferguson and Dave Turnbull. Junior bridesmaids were Peggy McFalls and Bonnie Turnbull, Wanda Sue Turnbull was flower girl and Justin Turnbull was ring bearer. Berry, chairman of the Board of Alexander and Marine General Hospital, Goderich, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Hospital Associa­ tion. The election took place at the Association’s Annual Meeting on November 6 at the Sheraton Centre. Toron­ to. Mrs. Berry, who was born in Owen Sound, is a long­ time resident of Goderich. She has served on the Board of Huron County Children’s Aid Society, and is a Past- President of the Hospital Auxiliary in Goderich.
