Reeve Ivan Hearn said it was not fair for the present council to make any vital decisions for next year when there could be some new members of council beginning in December. Present council members Larry Hotson, Gary McFalls, Norm Steeper and Harry Wraith are being challenged by newcomers Peter Butler, John Forster and James Robertson. At the same time Hearn said he disagreed with the provincial decision to move nominations and elections ahead. He said it didn’t seem proper to have a new council take over early in December when a lot of items of the current year should be cleared up by the present members. A letter from Village engineer J. P. McIntyre authorized the correction of some problems. About 100 feet of sidewalk with be lowered at 197 Water street and 40 lineal feet of sidewalk is to be corrected on Beech street in the vicinity of the Jim Young residence. Works superintendent Doug Johnson who assumed his new duties November 1 brought in a lot of suggestions for work to be done in 1979 and these matters will'be held over to be dealt with by the new council. Our sincere appreciation to the few dedicated Comrades who conducted the street distribution Saturday. Members are reminded of our annual pilgrimage to the Granton Cenotaph for the Remembrance service to be held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Let us have a good turn out. All ex-service men and women are also reminded of the Remembrance banquet to be held November 11 between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The Ladies of our Aux iliary have kindly consented to be our hostesses for this event. Deputy Zone A-5 Commander Comrade Jim Simpson will be guest speaker. Then on Sunday, November 12th, we will be attending the Anglican church, Lucan for our an nual Remembrance Church parade following which we will return to the Branch for the wreath laying ceremony which will commence at about 12:30 p.m. This should allow all congregations am ple time to attend. As election time ap proaches it comes to mind that here we have a freedom of choice, something not en joyed in many countries, something that ’is very precious to us all in a free nation — for it is something for which our Comrades fought and for which our Comrades died. All that I am sure is expected of you is that you get out and vote-fbr the person or persons of your choice — But Do Get Out And Vote. When passing Branch 540 have you noticed how bright the building is — Well Comrades this didn’t just happen — It was our Comrade Jim Simpson and his faithful crew who made it possible. Many thanks. And that’s 30 for this week — remember — To rise at dawn, brave and strong; To help a weaker one along; To heal a wound, or right a wrong; To fill a heart with a happier song — THAT’S LIVING! water rates at the village tower had been increased with only a slight decrease in consumption. The seniors were also taught the Brick Stitch which is used for binding the samples together, to make a cushion, etc. The next meeting will be held Wednesday evening, November 15 at the home of Christine Geertsen. A schedule has been work ed out to accommodate about 90 persons. Among those appearing at the hearing as witnesses supporting the application were Larry Hotson, Gary McFalls, Clare Stanley, Keith Dickson, Trudy Simp son, Helen Kendrick, Anne Marie McGee, and Mrs. Arvids Bertrands. Murphy said 35 persons had volunteered to back the application but it was only necessary,to call a few. The bus company official said he felt it would take some time for Lucan and Granton residents now in volved in car pools to adjust to the bus system. Church news At the Lucan United Church, meditations during the month of November will be on the theme "These Meet the Master.”. On Sunday, November the Sth, Rev. Keith Brown spoke on "A Divorcee Meets the Master”, basing his remarks on the story of the meeting between the woman of Samaria and Jesus, at Jacob’s well. This woman had three "hang-ups” which held her back from accepting all Jesus had to offer, First her racial prejudice, the long standing hatred between Samaritans and Jews. Second her moral hang-ups and third her religion. However, when Jesus told her that he was the Messiah, she accepted Him and dashed back to the town, leaving her water jug and forgetting all about His request for a drink of water. The love showing in her eyes was not to draw men to her personally any more, but love for Jesus which glowed through her whole per sonality. We too may accept Jesus and let his love glow in- our daily lives. The choir sang an arrangement of “How Great Thou Art”, with John MacDonald taking the solo part. The flowers in the Sanc tuary were from the funeral of the late Mrs. Jane (Barker) Higman, The love and prayers of the congregation are extended to her family and loved ones. Next Sunday all members and friends are urged to attend the Remembrance Day Service in the Legion Hall at 12:30, followed by light refreshments served by the Ladies’ Auxiliary. Next Sunday evening at 7:30, Ron and Kris Klusmeier in Concert, will be presented at Mt, Zion United Church, London and the following Tuesday, November 14, they will conduct a “Music Workshop” in the same Church. Everyone is invited to attend both of these events. Members are asked to bring in their bazaar items, priced, on Friday, November 17 between 7 and 9 p.m. If you need a "pick-up” please ’phone 227-4674 or 227- ' 4410. PRANK CALL Another “post-Hallow- e’en” prankster called out the volunteerfirebrigade’late Friday evening, reporting a car fire on Highway 4 south of the village. When the firemen arrived, luckily they found only burning tires, but some "kooks” sure had a perverted sense of humour to call out the volunteers so late at night, Hope they were not Lucan young people.
