J. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA Thirteen members and two leaders attended the fifth meeting of the “Staffa Snackers” held on October the ninth at the home of Mrs, George Vivian. The meeting opened by all repeating the 4-H pledge followed by the roll call. Mrs. Vivian discussed help­ ful hints when using “Gelatin” and showed the correct procedure in using it. Mrs. Jeffery discussed the need for energy conserva­ tion, telling of different ways to save power. Marlene O’Reily demonstrated “Cod Italiano”, Janice Vivian prepared “Maple Treasure” and Jill Norris demonstrated “Pink Velvet”. The sixth meeting was dis­ cussed and plans begun for a party. Everyone sampled the dishes demonstrated. Auxiliary meets Mrs. Clifton Miller was hostess for the Thanksgiving meeting of the Marion Ritchie Auxiliary, held at her home October 17. Guest speaker was Mrs. R. Dunseith, St. Pauls the Presbyterian visitor who gave a most interesting and timely paper on Giving Thanks Always. Mrs. Larry Gardiner presided and welcomed Mrs. Dunseith and the W.M.S. members. She opened the meeting with a poem and the program in the Glad Tidings, assisted by Mrs. Jean Carey and Mrs. John Templeman. Mrs. John Miller read the scripture lesson taken from Psalms 95 verses 1-7. Mrs. Clifton Miller favoured with a solo, I Thank You God, ac­ companied on the piano by Mrs. John Scott. Mrs. Bob Laing gave a reading on Autumn in On­ tario, Mrs. Lome Elliott chose Thanksgiving as the theme of her topic. Roll call was answered with a verse on Thanksgiving. The president Mrs. Dun­ can Scott presided for the business when invitations were accepted to meet with the W.M.S. of Cromarty Presbyterian Church, November 2 and with the Hensall Arnold Circle in Carmel Presbyterian Church, November 7. Staffa Wl Mrs. Nancy Ross, Home Economist for Perth County was guest speaker at the Family and Consumer Af­ fairs meeting of the Staffa Women’s Institute, held in the Township hall, Wednes­ day evening with 12 members and four visitors present. Mrs. Ross gave a most in­ formative and interesting talk on nutrition, and each lady present evaluated herself on a quiz, How well do you eat? The president Mrs. Charles Douglas opened the meeting with the Mary Stewart Collect and then held a memoriam service for Mrs. Jessie O’Brien, a former member, closing with the reading of The Lord is my Shepherd. Mrs. Bert Daynard, the secretary dealt with the cor­ respondence, reminding members of the Achieve­ ment Days for the 4-H Homemaking club on Essen­ tial Edibles in Kirkton Com­ munity Centre, November 18 where Staffa clubs 1 and 3 will participate and in Mitchell, November 29 where Staffa club 2 will par­ ticipate. A donation was made to the C.N.I.B. Mrs. Carter Kerslake reported on the short course on quilts and Mrs. Douglas gave a report of the Perth County rally in Kirkton Community Centre with four ladies attending from Staffa W.I. Mrs. John Templeman presided for the program, opening with a poem “In­ dividuality” by “Patience Strong”. Roll call was answered by naming^a time saving device in my kitchen. Mrs. Norman Harburn gave a past event of the Staffa W.I. recalling a bus trip to London. Members enjoyed a con­ test on common weeds of Ontario with Mrs. Douglas the winner. Members had set up an interesting display of their hobbies for viewing. The hostesses, Mrs. John Templeman and Mrs. Nor­ man Harburn served lunch following the meeting. Personals Barbara Templeman was a weekend guest of Janet Fisher, Mitchell. Gary Norris and Mark Bryans, Brampton visited on the weekend with Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Norris and family. Mrs. Wyn West, Embro visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Rob Templeman and Carrah. Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Norris and family visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Burleigh and family. Goderich. Meeting one of the short course on Quilts was held Tuesday evening with eleven ladies present. The meeting was held in Mrs. Daynard’s home. She and Mrs. Carter Kerslake are conducting the course. Second meeting is planned for Monday evening November 6.
