Roll call was answered by “How I can publicize the Women’s Institute.” Motto - “A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men.” Mrs. Marlynn Jolliffe, editor of North Lambton Sun was scheduled to speak was unable to attend due to illness in her family. Did you know? was given by Donna Ruth Lovie. She had a package of new products available, in­ cluding towels, cereal and soup. Clara Hamilton reported on attending the County Rally at Londesboro. Huron South W.I. has 54 life members. A Home decorating short course will be held in South Huron Rec centre October 31. Other courses will be needlework, with five new stitches, and preservation, coming up later. A speaker from Huron County Children Aid told the Rally that 332 families are under family and children service, and that people should report child abuse. It was voted to continue the W.I. bursary, and the cost goes up from $.50 to $.75 a member. Karen Hyndman, Wingham was the W.I. scholarship winner this year. Plans were finalized for the bake sale, and refresh­ ments to be served at the Craft fair coming up on November 4. It was voted for Clara Hamilton to attend the W.I. Area Convention, at the Banqueter, London, on November 1 and 2 as a delegate. Two members volunteered to attend the 4-H girls Autumn dessert tea on October 24. Lunch hostesses were Fern Love and Ruth Hen­ drick. Well-known lady dies Funeral service was held Friday October 20 for Maurine (Desjardine) Ridley, at the T. Harry Hoffman funeral home. She- passed away at Strathroy .Middlesex Hospital, Wednesday October 18, 1978. She was in her 72nd year and survived by her husband Vern (Jack) Ridley, one daughter (Jeanne) Mrs. Charles Gibbs, of Parkhill. (Predeceased by Maxine 1939), Three brothers Thomas and Alex Desjar­ dine, Grand Bend and Robert of Exeter. Also three grandchildren. Rev. H. Moore officiated with interment in Grand Bend cemetery. Roll call was answered by telling “The recipe found which uses tea biscuits and how it tastes.” They cooked swiss steak, potatoes, green beans and onion soup, and made pink velvet gelatin dessert. Home assisgnment is to fill in a gelatin experiment. The 4-H girls are having an autumn dessert tea, October 24, 7-9 p.m. and invited two Women’s Institutes mem­ bers to attend, also their mothers and leaders at the home of Marlene Britnell. She replaces Mrs. Farrell, GeorgeAND DISTRICT NEWS CWL meet, church busy The Catholic Womens league met Monday evening October 16, for their October meeting with 26 attending. President, Annie Grootjen, presided. The group bought a lottery ticket to promote and help the children at Sarnia Catholic High school. Two ladies from Strathroy will be coming to their November meeting to demonstrate hand crafts. The C.W.L. are planning to host this area Christmas ecumenical with group 8 in charge. Church of God news A workshop on Church outreach was held at Church of God, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, last week by Rev. Wayne Dickinson, Lansing, Michigan. Rev. Dickinson conducted both morning and evening service at Church of God, Sunday. United Church news Guest organist and choir director at Grand Bend United church, Sunday morning was Mr. James F. Brown, A. Mus, Mus. B. Mr. Brown conducted a choir workshop in the church, Saturday with ap­ proximately 40 people at­ tending, having come from places as far away as Sarnia, St. Mary’s Ailsa Craig, and Auburn, and points in bet­ ween. Mr. Brown has given each of the persons attending some very valuable help and the influence of this workshop will be felt in their choir work during for­ thcoming weeks. Mr. Brown is currently serving as organist and choir director at St. Peter’s Lutheran church in Kitchener. Rev. H. Moore’s sermon topic was “Conquering Life’s Fears.” There will be sacrament of baptism at the United church on November 12. Parents wishing to have their children baptized at that time are asked to contact Rev. Moore. Sunday November 5 will be Grand Bend United church anniversary. Guest speaker will be Rev. J. Earl Burr of Parker Sarnia, service, former congregation. St. United church, at the 11.00 a.m. Rev.
