FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA Centralia U.C.W. held their October meeting with Mrs. Iva Blair and Mrs. Marion Abbott leading devotions, opening with a poem. Mr. Ray Schuyler from “The Friendship Cpntre”, London spoke on work, counselling and sports. He was very informative on ways they keep the native folk at the centre too. Iva Blair read the scripture. Marion Abbott led in prayer. Mrs. Lois Wilson favoured with the solo “Let thy people go.” The girls gave a paper on human rights in three dif­ ferent countries with a summary. The hymn “Fight the good fight” closed the devotions. Mrs. Edith Lobb opened the business with two poems, “Thanksgiving fragrance” and “Thanksgiving Day.” A report on the musical for October 27 was favourable. The committee served a delicious lunch. Sunday Service Mr. Paul Schott in his sermon at the service in the United Church Sunday morning referred to the Ministry as a partnership. The Session, Stewards, Official Board and other organizations of the church are in partnership with the minister to achieve a suc­ cessful goal. There is a large respon­ sibility with being a member of the church and an even greater responsibility and commitment in being a Christian. The choir leader and members have a great responsibility in providing the ministry of music. Reference was made to the work being done in the Sunday School by the superintendents and teachers. We should be a mirror reflecting God’s presence and love in all we do. An anthem was sung by the choir and the children’s story was told by Mrs. Schott. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Huxtable accompanied Mr. & Mrs. Harold Jones, Hensall on a motor trip last week to North Bay and along the Ottawa Valley route to Ottawa and on to Cornwall. They followed the St. Lawrence. River to Upper Canada Village. From Gananoque they took a boat cruide of the Thousand Islands and enjoyed the beautiful autumn colours. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Dixon were on the 1000 Island Adventure Tour with McNaughton Tours of Ilderton and report a most enjoyable time. Mrs. Ross Krueger, Crediton was a Sunday visitor with Mrs. Fred Cunnington and Mr. & Mrs. Howard Cunnington and family were Sunday evening callers. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hirtzel were in Lucan over the week end with their grandsons in the absence of the boys parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bev Hirtzel. Sunday Mr. & Mrs. Hirtzel were dinner guests at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Karl Keller and family in London. Mary Lou Tasko, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Tasko, an honour graduate of North Middlesex District High School, Parkhill was the recipient of five awards at the Graduation Exercises held in the School on Saturday night. Congratulations, Mary Lou. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Bowden attended the graduation exercises in. Parkhill on Saturday night. Their grandson Jim Allison was among the graduates. Here's A Treat For Those Who Shell Out By KATHY COOPER ELIMVILLE The Elimville Women’s Institute entertained Hurondale and Seaforth W.I.’s at their October meeting. The president Mrs. Murray Coward opened the meeting with a poem “Human Touch.” followed by Opening Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. An invitation was received from Hensall Women’s Institute to a dessert euchre, October 18 at 1 p.m. The home decoration short course will be held at the Exeter Rec Centre Tuesday October 31 from 10 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. Mrs. Jack Dykeman will be the delegate to the area convention. Members celebrating birthdays since July were called to the front. Happy birthday was sung to all celebrating. The meeting was turned over to the program com­ mittee of Mrs. Gilbert Johns, Mrs. Ron Fletcher and Mrs. Leone Brock. Mrs. Brock was the chairman for the remainder of the meeting. A reading “Miss Dorothy entertains the Minister” was read by a member of the Seaforth Institute. A discussion on “banning of the books” followed. The books referred to were the three English books used in the high school that have been in the news of late. Mrs. Johns introduced Erwin Steinmann from the Zurich area who gave his reasons for not keeping them in the high schools. Mrs. Fletcher introduced Walter Creery from the Sunshine line who gave his reasons why they should be kept in the high schools. An open discussion followed. Mrs. Brock thanked both gentlemen. A piano instrumental was provided by Hurondale Institute. This was followed by a duet by Mrs. Ross Skinner and Mrs. Coward. Mrs. Johns read a poem “Touch of the Master’s Hands.” During church service Thanksgiving Sunday three children were baptized by Rev. Bert Daynard. They were Robert Shawn Lynn, the child of Mr. & Mrs. Larry Lynn; Christopher Lloyd John Lynn the child of Mr. & Mrs. James Lynn; and Shaun Kristopher Simpson the child of Mr. & Mrs. Gary Simpson. Received into church membership by transfer were Mr. & Mrs. Jake Hovius and Mrs. Jim Lynn. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Cooper and family visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Russell Morley, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Rannie and family, Brantford visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Routly. Mr. & Mrs. Doug Fulton were guest Thanksgiving with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Fulton. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper visited with Mr. & Mrs, Don Kyle and boys London recently. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Wilkinson and family visited with her parents Mr, & Mrs. Norman Jaques, recently. A large number from the community attended the 25th wedding anniversary dance for Mr. & Mrs. Bev Parsons Friday evening at the Exeter Rec Centre. Mr. & Mrs. Norman Jaques,1 Mr, & M^s. Ross Skinner, Mr. & Mrs. Howard Pym, Mr. & Mrs. Lome Elford, Mr. & Mrs. John Batten, Mr.& Mrs. Emerson Penhale and Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Cooper attended the 35th wedding anniversary dance for Mr. & Mrs. Don Penhale Sarnia, Saturday evening. The Tyro boys enjoyed a hike and wiener roast Saturday afternoon at the Morrison Dam. Mr. Ross Hargreaves accompanied the boys. 4-H Club The third meeting of Elimville II was held October 16 at Jacky Van Roestel’s. The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge. The members answered the roll call. The next meeting will be held October 23 at 7:00 at Nancy Cooper’s. The members discussed plans for their party, Anniversary Sunday at 11 a.m. Elim­ ville United Church will be celebrating their an­ niversary. Rev. John Wareham, Exeter will be the minister. THOMAS HERN The third meeting of Elimville 14-H Homemaking club was held October 2 at the home of Mrs. .Harry Hern. Roll call was answered with “What your favourite breakfast is.” The girls talked about what should be made for lunch, also discussed which sandwich fillings freeze best. Metric white sauce made with a melted method and creamed method. They also made peanut butter and apple spread and potato cheese chowder that all enjoyed. The fourth meeting was held October 10 at the home of Elaine and Margaret Pym. It opened with the roll call answered with “A soup you like based on white sauce.” and how to knead the dough was discussed. They described some things that could be mixed in with the biscuit dough.
