At this time I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people of our area who helped to make the 1978 Student Manpower,Program a success. Over the summer, our offices in Exeter and in Goderich had 630 jobs filled W -1 * UM by students. This was an increase of 48 placements from this time last year. As more and more people learn of our program, we are able to find an increasing number of jobs for students. I hope our communities will lend their support again in 1979, as they have this year. N7A 1N2 OPEN AS PLANNED Art Ender, president of the board of directors, and William Hutt, artistic direc­ tor, announced today that Theatre London will open its 1978 79 season as scheduled on November 22. A number of highly publicized inconveniences over the past eighteen months has generated speculation as to whether the renovated Grand will raise its curtain in the fall of 1978. After very careful deliberation, the contractor has assured Theatre London that the deadline will be met. Priority has been given to the completion of all produc­ tion facilities and public areas. With time the most important element, the site is now a hive of activity. Three ready in resort With this year’s municipal elections six weeks away, all three Grand Bend coun­ cillors have indicated that they will seek re-election. Following the conclusion of council Monday, Bill Baird and Keith Crawford announced they would seek another two year term while Harold Green said he would “probably” be running again. Reeve Bob Sharen and Deputy-reeve Bob Simpson said they had not made up their minds. Nominations for the election open on October 16 and close October 23. WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD Thirty ladies gathered at the church Monday evening for their Thanksgiving thank-offering meeting. Mrs. Bev Alexander had as the theme for the meeting "Thanksgiving”. The ladies read Psalm 100 in unison. Thanksgiving. This is the time of year to count your blessings was read by Mrs. Gerry Morgan. A reading Try being thankful for you written by Norman Vincent Peel was given by Mrs. John Pym. Stop and Give Thanks was given by Mrs. Alexander. Mrs. Morgan received the offering and Mrs. Alexander gaye prayer. Mrs. Alexander introduced Bev Robinson of Exeter. Mrs. Robinson showed some slides of Haiti and also gave a talk on Haiti and Bangledesh. She had many articles on display which we were able to purchase. Mrs. Alexander thanked Mrs. Robinson. Mrs. Rohde opened the business part of the meeting with a poem Every day is a day to give thanks The usual business was dealt with. It was decided to send $25 to the foster child in India for Christmas. The manse committee are catering to a banquet October 11 at Kirkton-Woodham Com­ munity Centre. The U.C.W. are catering to the Co-op banquet at South Huron Rec Centre, Exeter on November 24. The UCW is invited to attend the meeting at Elimville. October 25. The South Huron fall regional meeting will be held at Chiselhurst, Tuesday, October 17, at 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Barry Jeffery and Mrs. David Passmore the Christian Development Committee gave a skit “The Lord’s Prayer”. Group C served lunch along with the hostess Mrs. Arnold Cann. Sunday, October 8, Thanksgiving service with Communion will take place and Sunday October 15 the fall anniversary service will be held with Rev. Lawrence Squires, Woodstock as guest speaker. In the evening at 8 p.m. an evening of music will be held featuring the Cor­ nerstone Quartet, Lucan and Michael Pierce’s group of Crediton. Mrs. William Thomson, Exeter accompanied Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde to London where they visited the former’s sister Mrs. Robert Ross who underwent surgery recently in University Hospital.
