Blyth announces
plans for winter
Bly th Centre for the Arts
has announced a busy 1978-79
winter programme with 15
entertaining events already
booked and more to come.
Highlighting the season
will be the appearance of
The Canadian Brass
November 15. A sassy and
irreverent quintet with
boundless energy and en
thusiasm they play
everything from ragtime to
classical music. In 1977,
Canadian Brass were
selected for a spectacular
tour of the People’s Republic
of China as part of an official
cultural exchange between
Canada and China.
Another feature presen
tation of the season will be
Bibi Caspari and her mime
dance company. Mime
theatre brings a new form of
entertainment to the Cen
tre’s audience on November
1.
October 29 will see a live
concert featuring local
and bluegrass performers.
This event is in co-operation
with CKNX Stereo 102, and
will be taped for later
broadcasting.
Opera returns to the Bly th
Memorial Hall on February
21 when the University of
Western Ontario’s Opera
workshop presents their
production of Francis
Poulenc’s opera, Dialogues
of the Carmelites, in english.
The success of the
children’s movie
programme of last winter
has led to a 10-movie
schedule. The movies can be
viewed the second Saturday
of each month at 2 p.m. Some
of the movies to come are
Gulliver’s Travels
animated, Huck Finn, Hans
Christian Andersen, Doctor
Doolittle and others.

Carl Macmahon of the
Bank of Montreal, Hensall
gave a very informative dis
course on "What every
woman should know about
money”, when he addressed
the Kippen Women’s
Institute at the Legion Hall,
Hensall, September 20.
He stressed the making of
wills, keeping of records and
the advantage of having a
savings program, Mr. Mac
mahon was introduced by
Mrs. Harold Parsons and
thanked by Mrs. M. Connol
ly.
Mrs. Ernest Whitehouse
gave the motto, "Every
time a banana leaves the
bunch it gets thinner.” She
referred to the forming and
work of the Institute and left
the thought that the Institute
member who doesn’t do her
share leaves the rest of the
bunch thinner.
Mrs. Alex McGregor was
the convener for this
meeting and chaired the
program.
President, Mrs. Dave
Triebner conducted the
business and read a poem
“Surprise Heaven”, Kippen
East W.I. members use
their freezers if the
response from the roll call,
“What I like best from the
freezer and how to prepare
it”, is any indication.
Plans for the Rally, Area
Convention and the plowing
match were finalized.
