In the absence .^L?C e of the president Mrs Gordon Dann, Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins was in the chair and opened the meeting. A minute’s silence was observed in memory of the late Mrs. George Wilson who was a member of long standing of the Granton W.I. The roll call was answered with a current event of in terest. Mrs, Clarence Lewis reported on the two bus trips that were taken during the summer to Owen Sound and the Blyth Festival Theatre, also on the erection of the Granton street signs which was also a W.I. project. Mrs. H. Hodgins and Mrs. C. Lewis offered to attend the training school for the Department of Agriculture and Food course "Spotlight on Bread. Mrs. Summers gave an in teresting account of her visit to the Discovery Train while it was in Stratford recently and described how the 14 cars depicted through wax models, pictures and ar tifacts, the whole history of Canada from prehistoric man to the present day. Mrs. Harlton who had visited the Bruce Nuclear Power Developement at Douglas Point, with friends this summer gave a most interesting report explaining that when people hear the word nuclear they im mediately think of bombs. Through an article in a Harlton an effort is being made to try and change this misconception by explaining replace other sources of domestic power in the future. Lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by the conveners. Church news At the United Church Rev. Elwood Morden conducted the Sunday worship and took the theme for his sermon from the third verse of the 34th Psalm and entitled it "Why I ought to go to Church." Rev. Morden said that a young woman in his charge once told him that she went to church because the Lord had done so much for her that the least she could do, was to give Him one hour of her time on Sunday morning. It is through worship that we are fed spiritually and instructed in religion. There is no man that does not receive some help from a religious service said the minister even the poor washerwoman who said "It is such a relief, after a hard week’s work, to sit in church and think of nothing. The church also needs your at tendance as an example. There was a ceremony of promotion for the different Sunday School classes, this is called "Passing through the Gates,’’pupils pass through miniature gates placed at the front of the church to a higher grade and a new teacher. The church was decorated with a display of fruits and vegetables for a Harvest Thanksgiving. Two baskets of flowers were placed in the church in memory of the late Gordon Stevenson. It was ‘‘Harvest Thanksgiving” at St. Thomas Anglican Cnurch with Rev. Mary Mills con ducting the service. The church was tastefully decorated with a Harvest theme. Rev. Mills took her sermon from Deut. Chapter 8 referring our lives and harvest to the ordeal in the wilderness, saying that man does not live by bread alone, he must live in the Spiritual way and keep the com mandments of God, follow His way and reverence Him. Flowers were placed in the church in memory of the late Emerson Currah by his family.Personals Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Donnie McRobert on the arrival of their baby daughter at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, on Sun day, September 24.
