Mr. Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne attended the reception dance. Mrs. Mabel Jeffery Mrs. Hazel Jeffery were guests at the Graham- Jeffery wedding in Preston on Saturday. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jeffery of Preston, a granddaughter of Mrs. Mabel Jeffery and a grand niece of Mrs. Hazel Jeffery. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Gertsenkorn. Linda and Steven, Hensall were Sun­ day evening supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. David Passmore. Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde were Sunday evening supper guests with Mr. and Mrs Glenn Rohde. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hargreaves were guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hargreaves of Woodstock, Sunday. The occasion was the birthdays of four grand- daughters and two daughters-in-law. The Centennial steering committee met Wednesday evening at the church. They are going to bring their suggestions before the church congregation on Oc­ tober 29. The Official Board meeting of the charge was held Monday evening. Mrs. Minnie Elford is a patient in a London Hospital after having broken her other hip on Saturday. She was to have come home from Exeter Hospital the first of this week. Get well wishes are extended. At the church service on Sunday the sermon topic was “Obligation”. Mr. Hargreaves took as his text Paul’s letter to the Romans telling them of his new found joy learning of the power of God through Jesus Christ. The early church knew of this power and we may have it today by simply having the faith to trust in Jesus Christ. WIN HOME IMPROVEMENT AWARD — Mr. and Mrs. Larry Merner of RR 3, Zurich were the proud recipients of the most improved urban or rural dwelling award in the farmstead and home improvement competition sponsored by the Ontario Plowman's Association. Kenneth Knight of Rose Town, Saskatchewan preached in Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall for a call to minister to the congregation. Mrs. Dorothy Taylor presided at the organ and led in the service of song. A meeting of the three congregations was held in Cromarty Presbyterian Church on Saturday evening to meet Rev. Knight. Have Centralia Minister The Service at Hensall United Church last Sunday was conducted by Rev.Donald Stuart of Centralia. He preached on the parable of the net full of fishes and urged that Christians should work harder to maintain the standards Jesus taught. Dr. Ralph Topp was at the organ and choir director Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey sang a solo, “The Old Shepherd’s Prayer.” Next Sunday, the service will be conducted by Rev. Harold Snell of Exeter.a 1 Dashwood lady returns from outing to Germany By MRS. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD Mrs. Erna Schroeder has returned home following a six week visit to her former home in Germany where she attended the 25th wedding anniversary of her sister in East Germany. She also visited many relatives and friends. It was a wonderful trip for Mrs. Schroeder. U.C.W. Meeting The Stewardship Com­ mittee with Mrs. Bruce Guy chairlady was in charge of the September meeting of the United Church Women of Calvary Church. All joined in singing, “Love Lifted Me,” followed by prayer by Mrs. Hugh Boyle and scripture reading by Mrs. Guy.Meditation was read by Mrs. Syd Neeb. Rev. Bruce Guy was the speaker and showed in­ teresting pictures. Mrs. Mildred Kellerman read a letter from the sponsored girl, Andriane, in Taipei. Fifteen members answered the roll call. The Sunshine Committee is Mrs. Ken McCrae and Mrs. Eben Weigand. Lutheran Ladies Aid Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid held their September meeting Wednesday, Sep­ tember 13 with group 2 in charge of Devotions and lunch. The meeting opened with a hymn and prayer followed by the1 topic by Pastor M. Mellecke who in keeping with school opening gave a Geography lesson on the Holy Land. It is 150 miles long with the highest mountain 9,200 feet and average temperature about 17 degrees C. President Mrs. Lome Genttner dealt with the business. Eighteen members and one visitor, who later joined were present. The Altar Guilds for the summer months gave their reports and the new Guild is Mrs. Elmer Keller and Mrs. Mayo Mellecke. The ladies are invited to Goderich September 20 to hear a special speaker on Mental Retardation. The annual ladies aid fowl supper will be held October 11 with Group 3 in charge. Flowers for the church have been purchased from donations made by Mrs. Albert Vassler, Mrs. Oluf Pedersen and Mrs. Frieda Hayter. Mrs. Irvin Rader had closing devotions. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Wolfe and Mr. & Mrs. Aaron Restemeyer spent last week at Inverlochy Lodge and found fishing excellent, each catching their limit. Mary Mills was the minister at the Harvest Thanksgiving service at St. Patricks Church Sunday. The church was filled and was decorated with fall flowers; vegetables and corn.
