This club, called “Essential Edibles” is designed to in­ troduce cooking in metric style to the girls of the 4H Homemaking club. The first meeting of the Staffa No. I club called “Staffa Snackers” was held at the home of leader Joyce Vivian, August 31. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge being repeated by the thirteen members and two leaders. Following the .election, Mrs. Vivian - discussed “Canada’s Food Guide” with the members. The different varieties of food in each group was the main topic with stress being placed On the necessity of each individual having a balanced nutritional diet. Mrs. Vivian illustrated this subject with many in­ formative pictures. The assistant leader, Doris Jeffery, then took over with a talk on the metric con­ version. The history of the metric system and how the change affects the homemaker of today were the highlights of • her discussion. After this, two demon­ strations took place. Marianne Vandervliet showed how to make chocolate chip cookies using metric utensils and the correct measuring procedures.
