Pullen said, "the Inter nation Plowing Match is the most outstanding show in North America, if not the world.” In Wingham Thursday Agriculture Minister Newman announced changes which will give a more in tegrated form to the marketing division. His announcement was as follows: first, we are going to establish a food market development branch. This branch will have two primary functions. First, it will develop and implement programs designed to in crease consumption here at home of Ontario-grown fresh and processed agricultural products. All our existing domestic programs solidated in including Ontario marketing campaign, which has already achieved notable success over the past year. The second function of the market development branch will be to spread the word that good things grow in Ontario to the rest of the world. A new program will be developed to expand our export trade both in existing markets and in new markets with potential for large volume. This section will build on the foundation laid over the years by the Ontario Food Council and it will carry forward the successes of our recent overseas trade missions. The establishment of the new food market develop ment branch will involve repealing the act under which the Ontario Food Council operates at present. The Food Council’s trade practices responsibilities will be transferred to the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations. You may recall that when the Food Council was established, the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations did not exist. Now, however, with the Ministry firmly established in the trade practices field, I believe that these powers as they relate to the food in dustry ought to reside there. We are also going to (streamline the farm I products marketing area, I have asked senior staff to review the operations of the milk commission of Ontario and the farm products marketing board to see whether they meet today’s needs and requirements. For the time being, as an interim measure, the milk com mission of Ontario and the farm products marketing board will have a common ' chairman. This arrangement has existed, in effect, for the past two months, since the chairman of the milk commission has marketing will be con- the new branch the foodland consumer been acting chairman of the farm products marketing board. For administrative pur poses, staff of the com mission and the board will be brought together to form a branch which will continue to provide administrative and support services to the two boards. A further change in farm products marketing will be the establishment of an appeal process to administer fhe appeal provisions presently contained in both the milk act and the farm products marketing act. This will bring to an end the present situation where the two bodies regulate their respective commodity £imiimimmiiimmmimmimmim* I ADAMS | | Heating & Cooling | boards and also form courts of appeal. The final major change will be the amalgamation of the milk industry branch and the farm products inspection branch into a quality control branch. The new branch will be transferred to the marketing division because the quality of our food products is central to our success in marketing them. As I said a moment ago, this reorganization is the result of a great deal of in ternal evaluation JIM SIDDALL &SON ANNOUNCEMENT WE ARE NOW A DEALER FOR WPN FORAGE BOXES SEE OUR LARGE DISPLAY OF NEW HOLLAND FORAGE EQUIPMENT FROM SMALL TO THE LARGEST SELF PROPELLED ON THE MARKET PAY US CASH & NEW HOLLAND WILL REBATE YOU THE INTEREST FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS • Heating Systems of All Types INSTALLED.
