Other news includes a Turkey Shoot coming up at the Mitchell Club (located 2 miles north of Fullarton) on September 10 and that the Zurich club is closed until spring. By BILL MCNUTT It is nearly impossible to know what is legal and what is not. This is currently true if you are a gun owner or handloader. Our federal government has not only passed many new gun laws; but also, quietly passed many new laws covering ammunition and reloading supplies. If you are a reloader or gun owner (especially black powder) you should contact the Department of Mines, Energy and Resources for their latest Explosives bulletin number 8. It will fully inform you as to how much powder you are now allowed to have in your possession, where and how you may keep it and what your storekeeper, and you, are responsible to do upon your purchase of powder and primers, which are also covered here. It also ex plains under what loading conditions you may use the powder and how you are to clean up when not loading. Under Sec. 28 (2) “Custom loading and reloading for sale may only be undertaken with the permission of the Chief Inspector of Explosives and provided...’’. There are many more conditions so those of you who sell your handloads (or transfer them in any way) could find yourself in deep trouble. The eight page booklet also explains the new laws which have cla aped down on what our dealers are allowed to stock and sell. Not only are these laws giving us legal problems but they are causing the price of our loading supplies to rise. Local skeet shooters doing well at Vanastra recently included Bob Snell who broke his first 25 straight and a junior shooter Kevin Stanlake with 19.
