IRVIN RADER Eleanor Salmon arrived home safely, but with some difficulty, because of the Air Canada strike, Sunday morning after spending six and one-half weeks in St. Pierie, St, Pierre Miquelon (which is department of twelve miles off the south coast of Newfoundland.) She attended the French Language Summer School of the University of Toronto where she learned a great deal of the french language and culture. While in St. Pierre, she lived with a family who spoke no english at all — this was certainly an experience! St. Pierie is an island with lots of history and lots of intrigue. The town of about 5,500persons (totally french) is like a typical old European French village built on the side of a mountain over-looking the Atlantic ocean. While there Eleanor en joyed sailing lessons and was also fortunate to play on a basketball team against the St. Pierre champions. Fog is a natural side of the St. Pierre climate which was a certain change from Huron County life. When she was leaving their fall was already setting in. Because of the Air Canada strike she was forced to fly standby from Sydney, Halifax and Dorval in Montreal. It took her close to twenty-four hours of waiting and flying to get home, and arrived in Toronto, Sunday at 5:30 a.m. via Quebecair. She says the trip in whole was a great education and recommends to anyone thinking of going to St. Pierre: “ ca vaut la peine d’etre vu!’’ Bridal shower Mrs. Lloyd Radere held .a bridal shower at tier home Sunday for Marilyn Walsh, London, bride-elect of September.
