The game was perhaps the best in senior soccer played in Exeter this year. But Muller’s goal, ex cellently played for, was the only one either club could manage out of an almost equal share of chances when it came at five minutes into the last half. For the rest of the game, Exeter had whatever edge there was, but couldn’t enlarge on the winner, In one instance, midfielder Al Beattie twice headed the ball toward the Lucan net after his first attempt rebounded off the crossbar. Midfielders Joe Laurie, Dick Lord and forwards Matt Muller, Paul Van Gerwen, Wes Abbott and Brad Clausius were among other Centennials who couldn’t collect from fine attempts. Lucan, too, had a number of runs that failed. Yet all but a few of their attacks were blunted around the goal area by Centennial keeper Paul Van Esbroeck worked brilliantly for shut-out.
