Thursday at 1.15 a.m. a vehicle stolen earlier from Martin Vanderioop, R.R. 1 Arva, left County road 28 at Arva and struck a fence. The person responsible for the theft was arrested and will appear in court at a later date. The gates to the day event open at 6 Friday. August 18. 50 A YOUNG RIDER — Margaret McGuffin was youngest competitors at Saturday's Fun Day Granton. one of the parade in T-A photo three p.m. Fair chairman Glenn Nevin and his co-chairman Larry Hotson have lined up a busy schedule of activities. For the first time the parade will be held on Friday night. It will start at 7 p.m^on Highway 4 near the OPP station and head north to the Community Centre. The parade will feature a large number of bands and majorette groups. They include the Young Concords, the Bluewater Buccaneers, London’s Mocca Temple, the Seaforth pipe band, majorettes from Dorchester and Goderich. Also in the parade will be the London and area Shrine clubs with their jeepsters and other small mobile units. A popular Irish musical group, “Killarney” will be playing in the Lions Den throughout the three days of the fair. Friday night’s outdoor entertainment will ba provided by Ferlin Husky while the Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon spotsx will be filled by Carol Baker. The Good Brothers will be on the program for two per­ formances Saturday ternoon. For the first time a Princess will be named. This af- Fair selection will be made at 9.45 p.m. Friday night. A mammoth horse show will be staged Saturday afternoon and Sunday af­ ternoon a pony pulling exhibition will be featured. Mike Bacon, a cartoonist will be at the fair all three days to entertain the .young people. Look for him in the midway area. Some exhibition space for merchants is still available. New books are added three times a year and any books not in stock may be borrowed from the regional Library. There is no fee and the hours are 3 to 5 and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. T-A photo The service in Lucan United Church on Sunday was hi-lighted by the signing of the Cornerstone Quar­ tette from the Lucan Revival Centre, composed of Alan Melanson, Doug Butler, and Ken Peebles with Marilyn Dykemari at the piano and also singing. Their six numbers added greatly to the service of worship which was in charge of Mr. & Mrs. Ed Melanson, with Ed leading the service and Freeda bringing the message. In her opening remarks, Mrs. Melanson stated “My Goal is God Himself’’, and asked the question “What is the purpose of Life?” She said that many professing Christians need to find the answer as well as non­ Christians. The purpose of life, for all people, is found in many places in the; Bible, Jesus gave the same message to both Christians and non-Christian$ “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” and “If you keep my commandments you will abide in my love.” The monthly “Minute Talk” was given by Sharon Newman, telling of the work done in Jamaica and Grand Cayman Island where our Church has three Units in the Live Love Project, Next Sunday the service will be in charge of Henry & Kathy Kaune with Markus as soloist and DeGraw and Shirley singing a duet. E, SUMMERS Granton’s Annual Fun Day sponsored by the Granton Recreation Community Recreation Association was held under beautiful sunny skies Saturday-. The parade started from the cenotaph led by the Clinton pipe band. Judges for the parade were Jim Weir, C.F.P.L., Peter Garland, CKSL and Bill Giesen from the Lucan Lions. Pirie Mitchell and Peaches were also on hand to sign autographed pictures. Winners in the parade were as follows: 3 Wheelers - Angela Nixon, Steven McRoberts, Paula Pin- combe; 2 Wheelers - Andra Bannerman, Trevor Ready, Melissa Harding, Wagon Pull - Victor, Eleanor and Juanita Copp; Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf - Miachel and Luke Alee, Scott McCormick, Jason Laplante and Sandy Lynn Rooney; Robin Hood and His Merry Men. Thanks to the Granton restaurant and CKSL who donated prizes for the parade and dance. Musical entertainment by the Happy Wanderers: Bob Foster and Tom O’Sullivan, ball games and a turtle race were enjoyed during the day. A dance was well attended Saturday evening held in the Lucan arena. Door prizes were won by Mike Sim and Doug Cook. Winner of the gas bar­ beque sponsored by the G.C.R.A. was Ann Rose, London. Winners of the draw sponsored by the Edgewood Junior Farmers were 10 speed bike - Stephen Cook; $50 David Siddal, Ilderton; $25 - Dean McRobert; $10 - Kelly Gardiner, Ilderton. Doug Anderson and family en­ joyed a day at the Toronto zoo Saturday. Mr, & Mrs. Orville Sleeper spent a few days last week in the Kingston area visiting relatives. T-A photo Seniors see play The members of the Sunshine & Busy Buddies’ Groups, plus friends enjoyed their trip to the Huron Country Playhouse Wed­ nesday afternoon, to see the production of “Oklahoma.” Following the play they had dinner at the “Village Inn” before returning home. Those members con­ tributing to the craft booth at the Lions club fair next week, and we hope there will .be many, are asked to have their articles there before 3 p.m,, as the gates will be locked at that time until the, fair opens. ARTHUR HODGINS , The Clandeboye Women’s Institute sponsored a trip to the Huron Country Playhouse Wednesday evening to see the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, “Oklahoma”. They travelled by school bus plus two cars, for a total of 60 people from this area. Lunch was enjoyed at the Burkley Restaurant in Exeter following the play. Mrs. Clarence Carter was hostess for a bridal shower Sunday in honour of her niece, Rosemary Simpson of Kirkton. Mr. & Mrs. Wilmer Scott, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Scott, Dean and Brad attended a family reunion, Sunday, held at Port Franks where Judy and Harry Bond and boys are holidaying, Monday visitors with the Hodgins at Shadyside were Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Lynch, , Rochester, Michigan and Howard Morley, Hazel Park, Michigan. Michael Armstrong is holidaying in Burnaby, British Columbia with his sister and brother Elaine and Larry Armstrong. Hans Hosch returned last week from Hungary where he spent a month helping to erect a corn dryer for the Westelegen Company of St. Marys.
