One scene depicts a teacher’s father having a chat with his son “out behind the barn” and after at tempting to get an ex planation of the reasons for the strike, leaves the stage with a ‘‘stick it to ‘em Huron” finger movement. The father describes the gratuity issue as akin to the board providing the teacher with a free fire insurance policy for 10 yars and the teacher then asking to collect even though he hasn’t suffered a fire. The whole system of labor negotiations comes under fire and the play concludes with a question about the inteliuctuai capabilities of society in general. Over 80 Club Annie Noakes will be celebrating her 80th birth day, August 4. Eormer Huron resident Ted Johns came home Tuesday night to analyze the Huron ‘secondary school teachers’ strike and kept a full house in an almost constant state of laughter with his one-man per formance at the Blyth theatre. Taking his quick wit through eight different roles, Johns poked barbs at everyone involved in the strike—teachers, parents, trustees, students and taxpayers. Several members of the Huron board of education, administrators and teachers were in attendance and while the School Show no doubt had them squirming in their seats at times, he balanced his self-written examination of the strike to the point where everyone had a chance to laugh at the other fellow and at himself. The Blyth theatre com missioned Johns to author and perform the show and the results should be a box office bonanza. No one 'in Huron should miss it! From the opening skit of an old-fashioned school marm to the concluding one in which an arbitrator deals with the board and the teachers (represented by bushel baskets) to get the strike settled, Johns displays a keen sense of the varying moods of the principal components in the strike. He also interjects com ment on the current battle over some books on the Huron English courses. Publicity for the one-man show claims that Johns takes a side in the strike, and while it is well disguised and even shifting at times, the teachers appear to be the villains on whole.
