MUSICAL SOLDOUT — Ross Douglas as Curly, and Lynda Langford as Laurey star in the popular musical Oklahoma at the Huron Country Playhouse. The play, which opened Tues day with a two week run, was sola out before opening night. T-A photo Local church news Oklahoma joins 'sold-out' list A packed house was treated to a delightful evening of light en tertainment with the opening of Rodgers and Kam merstein^ musicale Oklahoma! at the Huron Country Playhouse, Tuesday. The ambitious 14- performance engagement was sold out before the curtain went up on opening night. Only rush seats are available to theatre goers who don’t have reservations to this show about the emerging American West in the 1900’s. The 20-piece orchestra ensemble directed by Peter Purvis, combined with an excellent music score, carries the play through a very lengthly first act. Oh, What A Beautiful Morning, The Surrey With the Fringe on Top, and People Will Say We’re in Love, brought entended applause from the appreciative audience. Ross Douglas as Curly displays the strongest singing performance in his role as the young cowboy courting Laurey, played by Lynda Langford. > Murray Ellis as the hired hand villain, who is set on breaking up the relationship in this classical love story, turns in a very creditable performance. Brenda Bradley, as the girl who can’t say no, keeps the play from dragging with her well-timed one liners. Technically the play could be tighter with the sound effects better timed to the action on stage. Twice in the evening’s ’performance, gunshots missed the cue. No doubt these rough edges will be smoothed out in sub sequent performances. James Murray directs the 26-member cast in one of the largest productions in the Playhouse’s seven seasons. Although the play was written in 1943, it still retains its charm for the audience in the 1970’s, Steelers extend streak I The Grand Bend Lakeport Steelers made it seven league victories in a row Saturday when they downed the Wyoming-Petrolia ns 7-1 in Sarnia and District Peewee soccer action at Grand Bend. Brad Forbes and Greg Murray were outstanding in the Steelers defence, and outside-lelt Joey Mom- mersteeg topped off a first class display with three well taken goals. Inside-forwards Collins and Dave scored singles, defenceman Brad found the net with two well placed shots.
