The volunteer firemen are again the sponsors. The popular event will be . held Friday and Saturday August 4’and 5 at the Dashwood Community Cen­ tre and athletic field grounds. Chairman Don Bender is optimistic that this year’s production will be bigger and better than ever. The grounds will open at 5 p.m. Friday August 4 when the always popular sauerkraut and sausages will go on sale and continue through both days. Friday’s special attrac­ tions will include an evening talent show and crowning of Miss Friedsburg at about 11 p.m. Donna Hoffman and Nancy Rader are in charge of the beauty contest. Parade chairman Ruth Ann Merner expects a large number of floats, bicycles and transportation of all kinds to join in on the mam­ moth Saturday afternoon parade. The floats and par­ ticipants will be judged at 1 p.m. and the parade will get underway one hour iater. The sports program under the direction of chairman John Becker will again feature arm wrestling and a tug-of-war contest. Preliminaries in both events will be held during the after­ noon with finals going at 7 p.m. Ron Merner is again in charge of the food com­ mittee and the bar com­ mittee chairman is Harold Schroeder. FRED BOWDEN Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hirtzel returned home Saturday evening following a three week’s bus trip to the West Coast and Vancouver Island with McNaughton Tours of Ilderton. The tour took them through Northern Michigan across the Mackinac Bridge to Sault Ste. Marie for overnight and then on to Thunder Bay, Winnipeg and Regina. The first long stop was in Calgary where they saw the famous Calgary parade, toured the city and visited the stampede and events, afternoon evening shows. From Calgary travelled westward to Banff, beautiful ‘‘Lake Louise”, through the Okanagon Valley past “Hope Slide” to the city of the West, Van­ couver, for three nights stay. The trip by boat to the Island was followed by a drive along the coast to “Victoria” the capitabcity of British Columbia. HE AITH AND HI11.GE T BE A BLOOD DONOR Before leaving Vancouver they visited Stanley and Queen Elizabeth Parks and toured the city. Travelling through the interior of British Columbia they followed the Fraser and Thompson Rivers past “Hello Gates’’ in the Fraser Canyon and on to “Mount Robson”. They had their last glimpse of the snow capped Rockies as they reached Edmonton, a city alive with excitement in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. Leaving Edmonton they continued their tour Eastward through the foothills of Alberta into the prairies of Saskatchewan and a visit to the Farm Museum at Saskatoon on the way to Regina. Leaving Canada they continued homeward through, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Michigan with many happy memories of the beautiful scenery and the new friends made during their trip. Mr. & Mrs. Rein Westdorp of New Lowell visited recently with several friends in the community. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Webber have just returned home from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia after celebrating Mrs. Webber’s mother's and fathers 50 wedding anniversary. They also visited her sister and brother-in-law and family in Burton, Oromsetg, New Brunswick. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper and Mr. & Mrs. Don Par­ sons and boys returned home after spending several weeks in the western provinces. A joint outdoor service for the Thames road - Elimville congregations will be held at Riverview Park in Exeter at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 30. Following the Church service there will be a Sunday School picnic. Everyone is reminded to bring their picnic baskets, lawn chairs, beverages will be provided.
