Two of the principal players are Trader Selkirk as Jeffrey Haywood and Judy Savoy as Polly Hathaway.- T-A photo Grand Bend council is looking for prices and plans for a new fire station even though the reeve says nothing should be done without a new fire agree ment. The fire committee sent a request to council Monday night asking for a new building. The committee said the present conditions are ridiculous with the fire department forced to leave equipment, such as one fire truck, outside. Deputy reeve Bob Simp son said council should go ahead and check into the cost of constructing a new building. But Reeve Bob Sharen objected saying council should first get an agree ment from Bosanquet and Stephen for the Townships to pay for part of the building. Simpson replied that un der the current agreement Grand Bend owned the fire station. “Why should Grand Bend pay the cost and get none of the benefits. If they’re not going to pay their fair share then I don’t think we should be using our taxpayer’s dollars,” Reeve Sharen said. “That is another matter. We can work out a new agreement later. I think we should still goaheadand look at plans and prices,” said Simpson. Council voted to obtain prices and plans for a new fire hall. “It is just another case of subsidization,” said Sharen after the vote. Council also decided to pay its portion of a new foam nozzle for the fire department subject to the agreement of Stephen and Bosanquet Townships. A boat, motor, and oars were purchased from Thompson-Warner for $1,- 040. Council will pay for the purchase with a one year dock lease valued at $200; and parking facilities for two years valued at $785. The balance will be payed for in cash. Council decided to hold a meeting with the village’s business people on July 26 at 9 p.m. to discuss parking problems. CP air will be making a commercial on Grand Bend beach on August 3 and 4. council was informed.
