HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1978-07-20, Page 135 Hensall girl wins awards Sandra Waddell,13 year old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Waddell of Hensall, brought back two ad­ judicator’s awards to this area from the Ontario Central Music League Festival held at the Airport Holiday Inn at Malton at the weekend. She was chosen from the third year solo accordion class and along with Gerda Brand of Clinton took the Adjudicators Award for the third year duet class. Both girls are students of Miss Diane Stevenson of Clinton. Auxiliary meets At the July meeting of the Huronview auxiliary held in the Board Room, 15 mem­ bers answered the roll call by giving a quotation or some verses. After much discussion, it was decided to hold the fall tea and bake sale on October 4, and it is hoped that there will be a good attendance at the next meeting on August 21 when plans for the bazaar tea and bake sale will be made. The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. Anne McNichol . Mr. & Mrs. Philip Little, Colleen, Jennifer Angela, of Strathroy, Mrs. Mabel Desjardine and Earl Stebbins. Members of the Russell and Schiebel families at­ tended the christening, Sunday afternoon, of Jen­ nifer Lee, baby daughter of Tom and Roseanne Russell at Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Several from this area attended a 25th wedding anniversary, get together, Sunday afternoon in Crediton for Rev. and Mrs. Bruce Pierce. Mrs. Doris Sweitzer, Mr. & Cliff Russell, Mrs.Mrs. Mabel Guenther, Karen Guenther and Mrs. Gordon Ratz visited an evening with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Ratz, son John, daughter Joan and her son Robert, (all formerly of Shipka) who were holidaying at Ozone cottage at Grand Bend. They left last Satur­ day for their home in Stratford after a three week holiday. In this act, the lady magician received some help from a member of the audience, Sandra Veale. Crediton minister marks anniversary By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CREDITON Sunday in the Sunday School rooms, beautifully decorated with roses, the U.C.W. of Zion United Church hosted a come-and- go tea in honour of the 25th wedding anniversary of Rev. Bruce and Jackie Pierce. Special music was provided by Mrs. Leila Fink­ beiner at the piano, Mrs. Gloria Martin in song, and several guitar duos by Michael Pierce and Russell Watson. Michael sang a very moving tribute of his own composition to his parents. The centre table was decorated with a two-layer bridal cake constructed by Mrs. Patricia MacDonald of Woodstock, Michael’s godmother. The guests fruit cake was prepared by Mrs. Nellie Fletcher of Wood- stock, Bruce’s mother. Linda Pierce received the guests, presiding over the register, and Howard Pierce con­ ducted tours of the church, A table of memorabilia containing the wedding book of twenty-five years ago brought to mind fond memories, and provoked some laughter. Many attended from Woodstock, Exeter, Zurich, Grand Bend, Shipka and the Crediton area. Present were two members of the bridal party, the maid of honour and an usher. Good crowd at Brinsley By GORDON MORLEY BRINSLEY A large crowd attended the annual chicken barbecue Wednesday night at Brinsley United Church. About 500 adults and 60 children tickets were sold. JVIr. & Mrs. George Prest, Bill. Kathy and Scott were dinner guests with Cindy Prest on Sunday. Mrs. Lois Whittard of Niagara on-the-Lake at­ tended the chicken barbecue at Brinsley. April Hodgins spent the week at camp north of Goderich. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Morley visited Mr. & Mrs. Joe Durand and family on Sunday. Several long distance phone calls were also received with much joy and thanksgiving. Personals The Leaders Class of Zion United Church Sunday School raised a total of $34.50 for the Leprosy Mission. Mrs. Allan Finkbeiner and Elizabeth Bender are the teachers of the class. Thursday Marguerite Finkbeiner, Gloria Martin, Leila Finkbeiner and Ella Morlock conducted the chapel service at Huron- view. Mr. &.Mrs. Robert and family, Oakville, Sunday guests of William Oestricher. serving their 44th wedding anniversary, were presented with a beautiful decorated cake"and a purse of money from their first cousins of this community Exeter, London, Lucan and Listowel. Mr. Mervin Elston made the presentation and ex­ pressed good wishes from all present. Mr. Gerald Godbolt read a telegram of good wishes from the couples son and family Warren and Dawn Hodgins Viking. The only living member of the “Richard Hodgins” family, Fletcher, married daughter deceased,asked the blessing. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon with visiting swimming and hors.e back riding. The couple from Viking are calling on their relatives for a short time. They plan to return home July 23. Centre Galt on Sunday. On this occasion the all Ontario draft horse “Queen’s” com­ petition was held for the various breeds of draft horses including Belgian, Percheron and Clydsdale. Miss Nancy Tindall, Lucan was one of the contestants in competition for “Belgian Queen”. Her address was well delivered and she was chosen “Queen”. Mrs. Jack Wood wife of the sect, of the Ontario draft horses association placed the crown on Nancy’s head. She was also presented with a corsage, ribbon and stick pin and as “Queen” will be guest at the C.N.E. Toronto in August and the Royal Winter Fair in October and several fall fairs.
