Times-Advocate, 1978-07-20, Page 11Nairn tops Centennials Nairn Cardinals engineered Exeter Cen tennials’ first defeat of the current Ausable district soccer season with a 1-0 score at Canner’s Field Sunday. Domenic Golafraneeschi got the visitor’s goal at 55 minutes in a game of even chances. It snapped a Centennial unbeaten string at five wins and a tie, prior to their beginning the last half of the season with Sunday’s game. Nairn and Exeter opened the match with 45 minutes of excellent soccer. In the second half, however, the game turned into a rough and spotty affair, with Nairn leading the way and Exeter electing to follow. The clubs stuck to that scrambly style of play until about the 70- minute mark, when Exeter began putting together some patterns again. These created several fine possibilities for the local club, but Exeter couldn’t manage to put the ball away for a tie." The Centennials play away at Taxandria next Sunday. They return for a home game at Canner’s Field on July 30 at 2 p.m. as hosts to Grand Bend.
