This would eliminate the com petitiveness on local jobs. Councillor Derry Boyle recalled one occasion when council didn’t take the lowest bid and the contractor in volved “raised hell and never bid again.” He indicated he hated not to give the job to the local firm, but presented the motion to award the tender to Tanner. The motion was approved. The estimate on the sewer work was $60,000. At Monday’s special meeting council received a petition from several property owners along High way 83 west asking that sanitary sewers be installed there by September of this year. In view of the fact such a project had not been in cluded in this year’s budget, council decided to advise the property owners that the service could not be provided at this time. Reeve Si Simmons asked if installation of the sewer would require tearing up the highway. Engineer Ross said plans called for the sewer to be installed on the north side of the highway and the laterals would have to be cut across the highway. He said that finding a suitable detour route was one of the main reasons why the line could not run down the centre of the highway as in most other sections of town. Hay approves many permits At the July meeting of Hay council, two applications for the construction of liquid manure storage tanks were approved. Stephen Gingerich was given approval to contract a manure tank on his property on lot 25, concession 13 of Hay providing he receives permission from an ad joining landowner. Ken Elder of lot 16 con cession 2 was given per mission for the erection of a similar structure, providing that a concrete top be in stalled on the facility. Land severance ap plications were granted to Ted Voogel, John and Doris Goldsmith and Leo and Irene Hoffman. Special tile drainage rates were imposed upon Ervin Keys, Thomas Markin and Grace Merner. Bylaws authorizing the maintenance and repair of the north branch of the Wildfong drain, the Munn drain, Neeb drain and the east branch of the Black Creek drain were approved. r Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary to KELLY AND IDRIS YOUNG with love from your family Jean, Howard, Keith, Ruth, Marlene, Pat, Vicky, Jauniata, Kelly, Lynn, Leona.
