The tandem of Jack Duffy as Felix and Les Carlson as Oscar lived up to their ad vance billing with Carlson overacting superbly as the slovenlv sportswriter. J OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK 235-2311 GRANDMA'S SUBMARINES 1 ZURICH FAIR Duffy had somewhat of a more difficult time with Felix’s complicated character, but once the opening night jitters were worked out, Duffy did an excellent job as the newswriter. The two headliners received strong support from other members of the cast with Murray Ellis as Murray, the slightly befuddled New York cop deserving special mention. Completing the card playing foursome in which the play seemed to revolve around were Alden Jones as Speed, David Douglas as Roy and Stan Lacey as Vinnie. As the play progressed throughout the evening, momentum seemed to be gained as we saw an Oscar, desperate for com panionship after six months of divorce, throwing his home open to Felix who had left his wife and then, but a few weeks later, begging Felix to pack his bags after ruining an evening with two flighty English “birds” who lived in the same apartment building. Some 200 of the best riders in Ontario and neighboring states will blast off at noon. as the two sisters and drew roars of laughter from the attentive crowd with the over-obvious display of some of their physical attributes. One scene which the crowd lapped up took place just prior to the breakup in the living arrangement between the two men with Felix saying to Oscar “I’m a neurotic, but you’re crazy.” The technical aspects of the play come off quite well with Alistair MacRae’s interpretation of a mid sixties Manhatten apart ment being well done, along with nicely subdued lighting by Christopher Popowich, The 60’s clothing as done by Merilee Atos is good, right down to the red and blue stripe jockey shorts of Oscar. Prior to the play’s opening, Judy Savoy of CFPL and a member of the cast of the next Playhouse production “Parlor, Bedroom and Bath” sent hundreds of balloons skyward in com memoration of the Playhouse’s seventh seasQn, After the evening’s per formance Carlson and Duffy cut a cake in honour of the seven years of summer theatre at Grand Bend. Summer stock is a theatre medium which is meant to be fun for the both the spec tators and the participants. Searing social commentary you won’t find and you should not find. As one Playhouse patron put it “Summer stock is something which you should have a hard time remembering what you saw the morning after.” The “Odd Couple” is a play in which the important thing to remember is the number of laughs which you received and in this production you get your money’s worth. A* I t k WELCOME PRO Terry Stacey of London will be the Exeter tennis club instructor for the summer months. Above left, club president Damien Solomon welcomes Terry. T-A photo Lucan church news Summer services com menced in Lucan United Church Sunday morning whe Rev. Keith Brown continued his series “How to Live the Christian Life.” He said that we must believe God is concerned and has in His hands the guidance for all situations. He wants to reveal His plan to each of us and wants us to share in that plan, so we must communicate with God. However these three things are not'enough. Our commitment is completely necessary and we must be absolutely dedicated to the Lordship of Jesus. Our commitment can be com plete if we read and study God’s will for us in the Bible, if we pray as we seek His will and ask for power to do His will. Certain circumstances, perhaps the needs of others will help our commitment and council with other Christians could be of great assistance. Mr. Brown told those present to take their problems to the Lord and trust Him for the answers. Members of the Friend ship Unit invite you to purchase one of their “dessert” cook books and make up some luscious desserts during the summer months. They will make a lovely hostess or shower gift too and may be purchased from any member of that Unit. r Mrs. Rose Kraft, 500 Gordon Avenue, London will celebrate her 90th birthday on July 6.
