The Kirk ton midget girls*
softball team recorded two
victories in three starts this
week.
The Kirkton girls split a
two game series with
Kinkora. They lost the first
contest 10-9 and came back
with a decisive 17-3 win to
square the series. In the
third game, they had little
trouble in beating Tavistock
13-1.
In the loss to Kinkora,
Sheila Penhale led the
Kirkton batting attack with a
triple and two doubles. She
was followed closely by Sue
Schaefer and Bonnie
Westlake with two singles
each.
Getting one hit apiece
were Kelly Kernick, Lori
Iredale, Rosemary Miller
and Terri Brintnell. Sheila
Penhale and Patti Down
shared pitching duties for
Kirkton.
The Kirkton club wasted
little time in getting even
with Kinkora in the second
meeting. They scored five
runs in each of the first two
innings.
Kirkton pitchers Patti
Down and Terri Brintnell
held the opposition to four
hits while recording 11
strikeouts.
Bonnie Westlake was best
at the plate with a triple and
two singles. Rosemary
Miller cracked a pair of
triples while Sheila Penhale
and Kim Heather each
delivered two hits.
Getting hits in single
fashion were Sue Schaefer,
Jayne Dougall and Pam
Johnson.
The win over Tavistock
was accomplished with 10
runs in the bottom of the
sixth inning. Patti Down on
the Kirkton mound allowed
only four Tavistock batters
to reach base.
Kim Heather led Kirkton
at the plate with a bases
loaded home run and a
single. Natalie Stroud
slapped out two singles and
Pam Johnson beat out a pair
of bunts.
Collecting singles were
Sue Schaefer, Patti Down,
Kelly Kernick, Lori Iredale
and Carrie Stroud.

Save most where you
use most
Most families use as much electricity in a month to dry the
laundry as they do in two years of vacuuming the rugs. Or in
seven years of electric shaving.
That kind of comparison makes it easy to spot the heavy users
of electric power in your home. Major appliances like clothes
dryers, refrigerator-freezers, ranges, airconditioners, hot water
heaters and furnace fans can waste hundreds of kilowatt hours
each month unless they are used with care.
(A kilowatt-hour is one thousand watts, used
for one hour. For example, ten 100-watt bulbs
burning for an hour.)
Waste is costly. Try to involve your whole
family in a campaign for the wise use of electricity,
particularly in the areas of heaviest use.
The Hydro conservation booklet "How you use
the electricity you use" can help you. Ask for a free copy.
