T-A photo Skunk responsible for one Accident damages hit $6r700 Damages totalled $6,700 in tour accidents investigated this week by the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. The first of two Tuesday accidents occurred at 4‘30 p.m. when a car driven by Marjorie Forden. Grand Bend was in collision with a tractor trailer driven by Hubert Arts. Lucan. The mishap occurred on High­ way 4. just south of Lucan. Constable W.T. Hodgins set damages at $1,600. At 8 p.m. the same day, a vehicle driven by Murray John Mathers, RR 1, Arva left Concession 14 in London township, near Highbury and struck a hydro pole. Con­ stable Hodgins damages at $1,200. Saturday at 8:30 p.m. vehicle driven by Arthur E. Parton was damaged to the extent of $7(io when it left the roadway of County Road 50, north of Highway 7. listed The driver attempted to swerve to miss a skunk and hit the ditch. A vehicle driven by John Smalley, London failed to negotiate a curve on north of road and pole. The mishap occurred at 6:40a.m. and Constable G.N. Wilcox estimated damages at $3,200. All counts the Plan plenty of activities for swim The Lucan Arena has lots of activities planned for the children in the area for the summer months. The Community Centre Summer school starts July 4 and will be from Monday to Friday until the end of August. Hours will be 10-12 and 2-4 each day. Leaders for the school will be Bev Hoffman, Janet McClure, Kim Flood, Pam Curtis and Mary Manders. These girls will the help of the Ministry of Culture have many special events plan­ ned. On the morning of July 6, 20 and August 17, a couple of girls from the Ministry of Culture will teach foreign crafts to the children. On the afternoon of July 18 a Binkley and Dorabel Puppet show will be held to teach the children the special care of handling hazardous chemicals. The rest of the summer will be filled with safety week, drama, talent show, hikes, wiener roasts, bike rodeo plus sports and crafts sessions. ‘ Children ages for the ! summer school is from 5-12 I years old. The fees are 25 ; cents a day or a season pass * for $5 a child, $8 for two children and $10.00 for three or more children. The Lucan pool will open June 30 for the summer with Linda Dickson as head leader. Lifeguards will be Cheryl Noyes, Christine Stutt, Kathy Wallace, Ron Glen, and Adam Stutt. Registration for swim­ ming lessons will be July 1 at 1 p.m. at the pool at the office through the week. Public swimming will be from 2-4 and 6:30 - 8:30. Anyone in­ terested in the swim team, spring board diving, skin diving and waterpolo, please contact the instructor at the pool. Tennis lessons will be on again for adults and children for the month of July. Hours for children will be 9-10 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. and adult hours will be 10-11 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. Contact Alf Williams at 227-4135 or ‘the arena at 227- 4221. With all this activities going on the arena staff hopes the children have a . busy and happy summer. The L-B Association have started T-ball again for the summer. Any girls or boys between ages 6-8 are welcome to play. Game time is 7 o’clock at the Lions Park every Tuesday night. Registration is $1. with parents permission. The Ministry of Culture from London held a playground leadership training camp for all the Celebrates birthday Over 170 friends and relatives gathered in the C.E. Wing of Lucan United Church to honour Mrs. Eldon Hodgson on the occasion of her 90th birthday. Receiving guests with Mrs. Hodgson were her daughters-in-law, Mrs. Jack Hodgson and Mrs. Arthur Hodgson. Pouring tea were three nieces Mrs. Cliff Culbert, Mrs. Ken Culbert, Mrs. Merton Culbert and Mrs. Arthur Hodgson. Granddaughters Kathy Robinson, Pat Rock, Karen and Christine Hodgson served in the tea room and great grandchildren Debbie, Kelly and Angela Hodgson and David Rock looked after the ' guest book and leaders for the summer schools from Komoka, Strathroy, Parkhill, Ilder- ton, Arkona and Lucan at Lucan Friday. They had talks on planning library resources, first aid, child development and demonstration on active games arts and crafts and drama. T-A photo to courts A press release from Ontario Provincial Police detachment at Lucan this week announces a crack­ down on liquor and driving offences. Community Services Officer Constable G.J. Barker announces that in future all tickets for squealing tires and having liquor in a motor vehicle will have to be settled in court. Constable Barker com­ mented, “A charged person will have to appear in court and will not be allowed to pay the penalty ahead of time.” Barker continued, “Complaints of tire squealing, noisey mufflers, drinking in cars, breaking beer bottles and drag racing come in every week, especially in Lucan, Ailsa Craig and Granton.” He concluded, “Those responsible show total disregard for their neigh­ bours and disrespect for the law and courts. I I I I I Couple honoured on 40th anniversary The family of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Hotson honoured their parents at a 40th wedding anniversary reception at the Lucan Community Centre Saturday evening. Approximately 250 signed the guest book and enjoyed dancing to recorded music by “The Par tie Sound” of kitchener. A very large humorous anniversary card was read and presented to Gordon and Agnes. It had been prepared by Judy Walker of Guelph and included the history of the Hotson family for the past 40 years, in verse and with pictures collected during this time. A smorgasbord was en­ joyed by the many guests who were present from Lucan, Guelph, Kitchener- Waterloo, St. Thomas, Thamesford, Ailsa Craig, Listowel, Elmira, Wimdsor, Kirkton, Komoka, Thorn­ dale, Centralia, Arkona, Zurich, Parkhill, Dashwood, Nairn, Granton, Vancouver and England. distributed birthday fruit­ cake wrapped and tied with gold ribbon. Gold Candles and a lovely bouquet in gold and pink flowers highlighted the tea table. Congratulatory messages were read by Rev. Keith Brown f rom Premier Davis for the province of Ontario, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau from the Governor General of Canada, Jules Leger and from Jack Rid­ dell, M.P.P. A telephone message was received from a niece in Winnipeg. Guests were present from Vancouver, Kingston, Willowdale, York, Toronto, Wingham, Holyrood, Stratford, Bright, Cam­ bridge, Forest, Strathroy, Embro, Parkhill, London, Exeter, Dashwood, Brinsley, Ailsa Craig, Denfield, Granton and Lucan and area. The catering was provided by members of the Evening Unit of the Lucan UCW to which Mrs. Hodgson belongs. Soccer clubs win five times Lucan minor soccer teams chalked up five straight victories this week. The Lucan girls blanked Seaforth 1-0 on a goal by Jacqui Green. The boys teams scored four straight xwins over Thamesford. The mosquitoes won their contest 1-0 with Paul Crunican the marksman. Jamie Pitt gained the shutout. Matthew Welsh scored twice and Scott Finlayson added a single goal to lead the squirts to a 3-1 victory. The atoms had little trouble in Thamesford Shipley and Brent Fowles each scored three goals, Kevin Koricina booted two scores and Jesse Crawford kicked a single goal. Lester Arts was in goal for the shutout. Rick Hall’s three goal effort led the pee wees to a 6- 1 win. Brad DeGraw booted two goals and Darren Mills scored in single fashion. blasting 10-0.
