There was little discussion
and no debate at the schedul
ed public meeting for input
into Hensall’s secondary
plan.
The Thursday night
meeting at Hensail Public
School attracted about 25
residents, who listened to
Huron planner Roman Dzus
outline the main features of
the plan.
The plan has been for
mulated over a two year
period following five public
meetings. This was the last
meeting before the plan goes
before Hensall Council for
consideration. County Coun
cil and the ministry of hous
ing must also approve the
plan before it is official.
Dzus told the meeting
there was three major types
of growth in Hensall - com
mercial, industrial and
residential. The primary
function of the plan is to con
trol landuse so incompatible
uses are kept separate, he
said.
Hensall is now in the
process of annexing about
150 acres of land from
neighboring townships. Most
of the land is in Hay
Township to the south of the
village.
“Basically, Hensail has
outgrown its landuse base. If
the decision had been to
maintain the status quo,
then there would have been
no need for annexation, but
with moderate growth,
more land is needed,” said
Dzus.
'■ During the question period
several Hensail residents
expressed concern that the
plan would restrict commer-
cial activities already in
operation in residential
areas. Dzus said this would
not happen as the plan could
not restrict an activity that
was already established.
Another resident said an
industry could put pressure
on the village council and
have the plan changed for its
benefit.
Reeve Harold Knight said
this was impossible as any
plan changes required a
public meeting.
“It isn’t something that
can be done under the
table/’ he said.

The Sacrament of infant
Baptism was held at Hensail
United Church on Sunday,
when Mr. and Mrs. Rick
McGee presented their
daughter, Jennifer Nancy
for baptism. Rev. Don Beck
officiated and also con
ducted the service, sup
ported by Mrs. Mary Mof
fatt at the organ and Mrs.
Marianne McCaffrey direc
ting the choir. A choral
prelude was sung by Mrs.
McCaffrey giving a new up
lift to the service and the
choir sang the anthem,
“Come, Ye Blessed”, the
solo parts being taken by
Mrs. Donna St. John, Mrs.
Belva Fuss, Ron and Doug
Mock.
For his closing sermon,
Rev. Beck chose the text,
“how can we know the
way?” dealing with how
people deal with directions
in life. Some are easily mis
lead and follow the wrong
' directions - some are
aimless. There is no well-
marked map to life. Our
destiny is tied to our contact
with the Lord Jesus Christ.
He helps us arrive by being,
“The Way”.
Flowers on either side* of
the pulpit were in loving
memory of Alf Clark, placed
by his family.
Following the service, a
reception was held in the
Fellowship Hall to bid the
Beck family farewell. Rev.
Beck has accepted a call to
the Corunna charge. On
behalf of the congregation
Walter Spencer presented
the Becks with a portable
colour television and stand
and an arrangement of dried
flowers. We wish the Becks
much happiness and fulfill
ment in their new surroun
dings.
Next Sunday, the service
will be conducted by Rev.
Harold Snell of Exeter. Ser
vices will be held in Hensall
United Church throughout
July- ....
An enjoyable evening was
spent at Chiselhurst United
Church on Thursday when
the congregation assembled
to honour the minister Rev.
Don Beck,
Harold Parsons was
master of ceremonies and a
sing-song was the first on the
program with Mrs. Alf Ross
at the piano. Mrs. Harold
Parsons gave a reading and
Miss Marylin Brintnell
favoured with piano
selections and singing.
Mrs. Ben Stoneman read
an address and Ross Ker
cher presented the Beck’s
with a gift from the
congregation.

Bicycle accidents are increasing
This is what
Ontario is doing to help
make bicycling safer
Stay alert to stay alive!
IK
Many bicycle accidents involve collisions
with cars or trucks whose drivers never
“see” the bicyclist until after it’s too late.
As a bicyclist, you have just as much
right to the road as cars, buses or trucks.
But you’re small and they’re big, and
being right doesn’t help if they don’t see
you! So it’s up to you to watch out for you.
Stay alert to stay alive!
We urge you and your family to become
familiar with the rules of bicycle safety.
Your Ontario government has
prepared a special booklet called “The
Bicyclist’s Handbook”. It covers cycling
tips, rules of the road, traffic signs, how
to become an expert cyclist and how to
maintain a safe bicycle.
