President Gordon Hotson presided for the business meeting when cost and time for the August 2 trip to the Country Playhouse were announced. Members will leave the hall at 1 p.m. sharp and are ask­ ed to order their tickets from Edythe Murdy im­ mediately. At the next meeting, this afternoon, June 1, the elec­ tion of officers for the 1978- 79 season will take place, or, if the group wishes, a nominating committee will be formed to bring in a slate of officers at the next meeting on June 8. Every member is asked to be present to make themselves heard in this connection. Mr. and Mrs. Lome Shouldice, sister and brother-in-law and Gladys Atkinson were welcomed as guests. A thank-you note was read from Gordon Atkinson and president Gordon wished Rita Robb, a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospital, a speedy recovery. Audrey Reid’s was the only birthday celebrated this week and she received the usual congratulations. A poem ‘‘Life’s Moneybox” was read by Mary McCarthey. Lunch was provided by Ethel Crouch, Mary McCarthey, Laura Toohey and Fred Mcllhargey. Bingo was enjoyed by members of the Sunshine group as well as one table of bridge and one of euchre. Members of the Busy Bud­ dies held a brief meeting before going to work on the new liquid embroidery club quilt, to decide what crafts would be done in the fall and to see how many members wished to visit the “Spinning Wheel” factory outlet in Listowel to get materials for rugs or wall hangings. Several agreed they would like to make this trip and a date will be set shortly. In the Fall the crafts will in­ clude “Papier Tole” (three dimensional pictures in shadow box frames) more Ceramics, liquid em­ broidery and flower arrang­ ing near Christmas for a couple of meetings. United Church news The “Dedication to Mission” service was a highlight Sunday at Lucan United Church when groups of the Church presented their contributions to the Mission and Service Treasurer, Mrs. C. B. Culbert. Michael Holden and Ted Hall, representing the Church School presented their contribution using a Guaranteed Investment Certificates Income Averaging Certificates R.R.S.P R.H.O.S.P. Bill Froats advised the con­ gregation of the successful garage sale held by the Couples Fellowship and presented the proceeds to Mrs. Culbert, and the junior congregation was represented by Debbie Hall. Others taking part were the Rev. Keith Brown and Ron Burr, Chairman of the M & S Committee, with the congregation joining in the response. Mr. Brown gave five points to help us be “World Changers” carrying out his theme “You Can Be a World-Changer”. I 'S SIMPLE Soccer is underway The new season for the Lucan minor soccer teams started this week. In a four games series against Thamesford the Lucan clubs could come up with only two points. The two squirt clubs battled to a scoreless draw and the atoms tied 1-1. Brent Bannerman was the Lucan marksman. Jeff Shipley was the Lucan mosquito scorer in a 2-1 loss and Rick Hall scored as his pee wee team lost 3-1. Tuesday night the mosquitos edged Ailsa Craig 3-2 on two goals by Jeff Shipley and one by Al Craig. The two squirt clubs tied 2- 2 with Mike Annis and Mike Gillan counting for Lucan.
