McCurdy school in Huron Park. This event was the first annual. Thanks to the efforts of the staffs and prin cipals of both J.A.D. McCur dy School and Stephen Cen tral the contest was sup ported by over 60 young peo ple, who did a fine job of showing to us the Optimists that there are still a good number of parents and children in our midst who take bike safety as a serious part of their lives. We would like to con gratulate the winners of this years trophy, Stephanie Jones first with a perfect score. In second place Kevin Looby (who was only one point behind) put in a super effort. There were five tied for third place in the top catagory. Glen Osborne winner of the third place trophy has to be given credit for ousting the rest in his second effort. Everyone of the children who participated deserves thanks from all of us citizens for giving up their time on an extremely hot Saturday morning. One little fellow that I wish to praise is five year old Jeramy Kapp who, although he couldn’t write the written test still came through with a 95 on the practical. There are many adults in the area that could take a lesson from this in terested young guy. Soccer is not taking a se cond place to the hot weather. The men involved have a turn out that is excee ding that of hockey. Tony Jones, Frank Dubbary and Brian Mullen are teaching the boys and girls, who show up in droves the fundamen tals of being a good sport and having fun. More coaches and help is needed by these men if they are to keep the spirit of our youngsters up. It doesn’t matter if your kids are young or old as a matter of fact it doesn’t matter if you are either, come on out any night and get involved. You don’t have to be an Optimist just be a helping hand. Drop out to the Huron Park field almost any night or contact one of the* above mentioned pros. This Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the McCurdy School “T. ball” is going to get underway. If there are some of you with little gaffers who don’t unders tand the game or who wish to belong don’t be afraid to come out and find out all that we can tell you about it. It is free. Mrs. Evelyn Glavin was the winner of the $350 Jackpot May 22. Congrats Ev. The next bingo will be held on June 5. See ad. in this paper for more informa tion. Teen town, sponsored by the club will be held on June 17. More week. What weekends have fun? Well on June 11 at the sports field in the Park you can do just that! We’re’ having an open “fun day”. There will be soccer, slo pitch, kids games, and a pic nic. Any one can attend and are more than welcome. Br- xing your own lunch. For members this day is also set aside as a regular meeting day.
