The Tigers swamped the Clinton Colts 13-7 Wed­ nesday, edged Thorndale 10- 9' Friday and lost 7-3 to Tillsonburg. Sunday. The Tigers will be on their home field Friday night at 8 p.m. when they play host to the London Rae J juniors. A five run outburst in the seventh and final inning powered the Tigers to their victory over (dinton. The Colts rocked starter Jim Guenther for five runs in the second inning, but, he was able to survive and allowed only three hits the rest of the way. John Hayter and Jim Guenther led the Dashwood batting attack with three hits Checking in with two hits each were Barry Baynham and Glen Thurman. Baynham’s first safe blow win twice to square season record was a home run capping a four run Tiger rally. Getting one base hit each were Rob Dickey, Dave Parsons, Bob Hoffman and Kevin Bestard. In picking up the pitching victory, Guenther recorded seven strikeouts. Almost half of the run total came in the fifth inning as the Tigers edged Thorndale 10-9. The losers counted six times in the fifth and the Tigers replied with three markers to end the game scoring. Dave Parsons with a homer, double and single paced the Tigers at the plate. Glen Thurman and Perry Stover delivered two safe hits each and single safeties went to John Hayter, Barry Baynham, Jim Dietrich and Noel Skinner, Perry Stover went the full seven inning route on the mound for the Tigers and gave up nine hits while fanning eight opposing batters. Against Tillsonburg, the Tigers scored a run in the first inning but it was the only lead they were able to enjoy. They managed to touch opposing pitcher Dave Pittock for four hits but could score only once. The hits were singles from the bats of Barry Baynham, John Hayter, Jim Guenther and Bob Hoffman. In the Dashwood third Baynham singled and scored on a similar hit by Hayter. The only other Tiger tally came on Kevin Bestard’s home run with one out in the seventh. The other Dashwood hits at LADIES GOLF Edna Busche carded the lowest gross score Tuesday’s weekly ladies competition at the Exeter golf and country club. Ms. He struck out eight. Willard scores three Exeter’s Doug Willard turned a .hat-trick at Nairn last week to lead the pee wees of the Exeter Cen­ tennial soccer club to a 7-0 win. The pee wees (14 and under) were part of a two- night soccer fixture at Nairn on May 23 and 24, which also involved the Exeter squirts (8 and under), atoms (10 and under), and the mosquitoes (12 and under). Tuesday night the squirts lost 2-0 on Nairn goals collected on a breakaway and a penalty kick. The same night, the mosquitoes lost 3-2 to Nairn, with Exeter’s Steve Gould picking up both of his club’s scores in a comeback second half. Prior to the pee wee win Wednesday night, the Exeter atoms dropped a 5-0 game to the Nairn atoms. The pee wee’s 7-0 shutout of their Nairn opposites, besides featuring the three- goal performance by Willard at inside-right, also saw Exeter keeper Rich Helm without a single opposition shot to handle. Other pee wee goal scorers were centre-forward Jack Smits; right-winger Philip De Haan; insidedeft John Mickle; and right-half Chris Van Gerwen. The win over Nairn also moved the Exeter pee wees record of no lost games in the 1977 season forward into 1978. GOALIE WINS — Netminder Scott McNair, was the April winner of the Hawk-of-the-month award, a $50 gift cer­ tificate from Len McKnight & Son's Men's Wear. Goalie Steve Beer, who had the third best average in theleague.was named rookie of the year, and another rookie, Randy Parsons, was judged the most improved player. Matt Muller, another graduating member of the team, was chosen as the most valuable player. One of the team’s top scorers, he played in every game this season. One new award this year was for "team leadership”; and it was voted upon by the team members. The winner was captain Steve Jennison, The April Hawk award, a $50 gift certificate at Len McKnight & Son’s Men’s Wear was presented to goalie Scott McNair by Dean McKnight, McNair, who joined the team after his own Lucan club was ousted by the Hawks, also received the Scott Bogart award, a “special thanks” for ac­ cepting the offer to play in Exeter to replace the injured Randy Lovie. Derry Boyle also presented a special award to Don McKellar, who missed most of the playoffs after suffering a broken ankle. Boyle termed it the “heart break” award, noting the agony McKellar went through in not being able to play. Members of the team presented flowers to Elaine Bogart and Rita Mom- mersteeg and a gift to Fred Mommersteeg, Ron Bogart and Bob Drummond. Coach Bogart presented special preciation awards to Derry Boyle, Wally Burton, Bill Batten, Gar Johnston, Fred Mommersteeg and Bob Drummond. The Exeter Minor Hockey Association honored midget coach Ray Brooks with a special gift, Brooks coached seven years in the system and held various executive positions. He has been transferred to the Mt, Forest OPP detachment, Brothers win The winners of the Hawk awards for the minor players included a pair of brothers, Preston and Peter Dearing. Preston won the award for the midgets, while Peter was judged the winner for the local pee wees. Other winners included: Dave Russell, novice; John Wells, atom; Mike Clark, bantam II and Tom Coates, bantam I. The latter won the pee wee award last season.
