Exeter’s Doug Willard
turned a .hat-trick at Nairn
last week to lead the pee
wees of the Exeter Cen
tennial soccer club to a 7-0
win.
The pee wees (14 and
under) were part of a two-
night soccer fixture at Nairn
on May 23 and 24, which also
involved the Exeter squirts
(8 and under), atoms (10 and
under), and the mosquitoes
(12 and under).
Tuesday night the squirts
lost 2-0 on Nairn goals
collected on a breakaway
and a penalty kick. The same
night, the mosquitoes lost 3-2
to Nairn, with Exeter’s Steve
Gould picking up both of his
club’s scores in a comeback
second half.
Prior to the pee wee win
Wednesday night, the Exeter
atoms dropped a 5-0 game to
the Nairn atoms.
The pee wee’s 7-0 shutout
of their Nairn opposites,
besides featuring the three-
goal performance by Willard
at inside-right, also saw
Exeter keeper Rich Helm
without a single opposition
shot to handle.
Other pee wee goal scorers
were centre-forward Jack
Smits; right-winger Philip
De Haan; insidedeft John
Mickle; and right-half Chris
Van Gerwen.
The win over Nairn also
moved the Exeter pee wees
