VICTORIA and GREY TRUST 425 MAIN ST. EXETER Centennials score early for victory ■ Exeter Centennials struck for three goals in the opening 25 minutes to beat Forest 3-1 in Ausable district soccer play at Canner’s Field Sunday. Left-winger Wes Abbott collected two for the locals, and centre-midfielder Dick Lord got one. Forrest’s single was scored by centre-forward Kevin Dolmage at 15 minutes into the second half of a fast game played in wilting heat. Abbott’s first goal for the Centennials came with five minutes gone when he "In the heart of downtown Varna" • Vacuum Cleaners - Sales & Service of most makes • CB Radios & Accessories • Speed Queen Appliances • Moffat Appliances • Smoke Sensors • Insect Lights & Fly Killing Units • Handcrafted Gifts Phone 482-7103 J * COMPLETE ♦5^ COVERAGE FOR * Home * Farm * Life * Commercial * Automobile Registered Retirement Plans CONTACT Bev Morgan Insurance Agency Ltd. 238 Main St. Phone 235-2544 Across from SaveWay Lumber Exeter converted a corner-kick from right-winger Al Hern. Two minutes later, Hern barely missed on a goal for himself when he rifled the ball of the right post of the Forest net. At the 20-minute mark, Dick Lord broke down the centre from a midfield screen position and sent a hard and lofting ball in behind the Forest goalkeeper. Then, five minutes later, Hern again crossed the ball beautifully on a run-in for his wing-partner Abbott to net his second goal. The three for Exeter could have been more. At 40 minutes into the first half centre-forward Ron Funston relayed the ball off both Forest goalposts in an im possible looking ricochet. He also missed on Centennial chances again in the second half, as did Al Hern, Matt Muller, Mike Janyu, Alfons Weersink and Brad Clausius. Forest, however, played far better than the score would indicate. They tightened up after Exeter’s stunning first-half attack, and pressed Centennial goal keeper Paul Van Esbroeck up to and past Dolmage’s second-half Forest goal as Exeter appeared to be laying-up in their own end. The Centennials finally shook off their seemingly negative shell though, and for the final 20 minutes reverted to the excellently controlled soccer they had . displayed in the first half. The Centennials play at Lucan Sunday at 6 p.m. Their next home game is against last year’s Ausable district ‘A’ Division champions, West Williams United. Game time for the West Williams game at Canner’s Field is at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 11. I I I I I I I I Now Exdusively at our Store ... Outdoor Furniture designed to look good and last for years.
