Today, the first event in
the new Hensall Community
Centre (Arena) will be held
when the Hensall and
District Kinettes hold their
Rummage Sale at 7 p.m.
Much effort and planning
has gone into the building of
the Community Centre,
which has seen the com
munity raise approximately
$145,000.
To achieve this result, two
auction sales have been
held, the first to sell all
salvagable materials from
the interior of the old arena
and the second to dispose of
the wrecked exterior. Men-
nonite help was obtained to
pull down the former arena.
The new Community Centre
will contain an ice skating
surface, change and wash
rooms, hall and kitchen, all
of which have now been
completed except the
surface.

Hensall
Church news
Dr. Douglas Fox of Huron
College conducted service in
Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sunday. Miss
Brenda Pepper presided at
the organ. Anniversary
service will be held in
Carmel Church next Sunday
at 11.00 a.m. with Dr. Fox in
charge.
The members of the
Oddfellow and Rebekah
Lodges attended worship in
the Hensall United Church
on Sunday and were ad
dressed by the minister Rev.
Donald Beck who spoke on
“Doubt and Faith’’.
Following the service a
social hour was spent in the
local lodge hall
specializes in counselling
people in debt, although
many family problems are
connected with money.
Amy Cousineau, from the
department of family ser
vices in Guelph, said it
would cost about $25,000 to
establish the agency.
She said 40 per cent of the
funding would have to be
raised locally before provin
cial grants would cover the
rest.
Ms, Cousineau said many
young people expect too
much when they start out on
their own and go into debt.
“When they get married
they think they should have
everything their parents
have, but their parents had
to work for 30 years to get
theirs.”
Ted Lang, a represen
tative for the Ontario
Association of Credit
Counselling Services, said
some people falling into debt
are reluctant to ask for help.
“It’s an embarrassing
situation to have to go and
tell someone you don’t know
how to budget.”
He said the high cost of
such things as cars and hous
ing make it almost impossi
ble for people to live debt
free.
Lang said requests for
help to the London Credit
Counselling Agency alone
have doubled in the first
quarter of the year over the
previous quarter.
He said the number of
cash loans have risen in the
last 18 months, “and you
really begin to wonder if the
family is beginning to
borrow just to keep their
style of living . . . and if this
is the case some people
better take another look at
themselves.”
PLAN NURSERY
All interested parents are
invited to attend a planning
session to organize a Bake
Sale on behalf of a co-op
Nursery School in Hensall.
This meeting will be held at
the home of Andy Imanse,
109 Albert Street at 8:00 p.m.
on Wednesday, May 31.
