Miss Mitchell took over the administration reins on March 25,1957 and officially retired exactly 21 years later. More than 180 attended the retirement party at the Holiday Inn in Montpelier on March 20. Master of ceremonies Gene Kimmell cited Miss Mitchell on her ability to satisfy all she came in con tact with, doctors, hospital employees, the publjc and the board of directors. Tributes paid by the speakers included “Credit to her profession”, “Outstan ding Administrator”, “Ser vice above Self” and the ti tle bestowed by the staff “Miss Fixit”. Leta Marzolf representing the hospital staff said Miss .Mitchell did just about everything there was to do at the hospital at one time or another, but she was at all times frugal. One time according to Mrs. Marzolf, Ada who purchased supplies and did most,of the typing of orders herself sent for some pink pinafores. She typed the number two (2) in the proper space, changed her mind, thought she erased the two and sub stituted *he number (3) size 36 pink pinafores. The delivery was made in a large container and in- stead of three there were 23. All turned out well ADA I. MITCHELL the unneeded articles were returned to sender with apologies. Active in the Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, Miss Mitchell served as a trustee at the church and on the board from 1965 to 1971. She was also on the building committee when the new church was erected, served on the organ committee for two years and is now an elder in the church. The hospital board of directors, Auxiliary and staff assisted in arranging this very impressive send- off for the familiar figure seen in the corridors of WCGH for the past 21 years. Ada Mitchell is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mitchell, Cen tralia and a sister of Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins, Centralia.
