Exeter Office 235-2420 Grand Bend Office 238-8484 Three last minute ad ditions to the town’s 1978 budget pushed the Exeter tax rate up another millwhen council struck the mill rate Monday night. The three additions, amounting to $4,250, brought the public school supporters residential levy up to 180.02 mills. Separate school supporters face a levy of 180.74 mills. Last' year the public school levy was 175.6 mills and the separate school rate was 175.4 mills. The final items to be added to the budget were $2,000 for a store front study, $2,000 for park maintenance equip- ment, and $250 for the property budget. Commercial rate payers also face a one mill increase over the council earlier expected as a result of the additions. Public school supporters will have a mill rate bf 205.65 and separate school supporters will have a HOLIDAY WEEKEND ,NTAR>° rate of 206.45. The mill rate increase is slightly over 2 per cent, one of the lowest rates local residents have faced. Councillor Ken Ottewell suggested council should consider adding extra ex penditures to the budget this year when the increase was low. “We aren’t spending any money on sidewalks this year. It might be wise to make a little heavier in crease this year and ease off next year,” said Ottewell. Councillor Ted Wright opposed the suggestion saying the town had to remain in a competitive position with surrounding municipalities. “Besides I think we are accomplishing quite a bit this year,” He said. “I don’t feel terribly strong about it. I just thought it might be better to do it now than later when the tax rate is higher,” replied Ottewell.
