A dinner prepared by the workers’ group and the May lunch committee, was enjoyed by 140 guests and the program arranged WIN READ HOW YOU| CAN ! by Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner and her committee, Mrs. Lloyd* Lamport, Mrs. Clayton Sims and Mrs. Ward Fritz. The president, Mrs. Ross Pickering welcomed the guests and at the close thanked the guest speaker and those whose work contributed to the success of the evening. Joel Lamport expressed a |, welcome to all present and Lloyd * Lamport, I Ella Morlock gave thanks for the food. Mrs. Nelson Lamport proposed a toast to the daughters, Brenda Neil replied. Between courses, Barbara Ratz played hymn tunes on the piano. Valerie Fink­ beiner, Karen Hodge, Schlenker and Helen beiner sang several bers, Mrs. Gordon beiner accompanying The Scripture was read by Mary Fink- num- Fjnk- them. Mrs. Cliff Russell and her daughter Cathy. Mrs. Lloyd Lamport read several poems. The guest speaker, in­ troduced by Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner was Mrs. Doris Zurbrigg, Listowel. Illustrating her address by posters, she spoke of the choice we make when we decide to turn to God. Flowers on the head table went to Mrs. Leita Hill, the grandmother with the youngest great grandchild, and to Mrs. Russell Fink- beiner for having the highest total of letters in her name. The gift for the youngest daughter present went to Christine Gayle, in at­ tendance with her mother Mrs. David Pike, Toronto. Personals Wednesday guests at the home of Mrs. Will Oestricher were Mrs. Evan McCandless and Mrs. Sheldon McCan­ dless, Strathroy. Nola Faist, Mr. & Mrs. Emerson Wein, Mrs. Aaron Wein attended the Sunday morning service at Calvary United Church, Dashwood. Jean Kellerman, Kitchener addressed the meeting. Sunday evening Rev. and Mrs. Bruce Pierce and Howard their guest, Mrs. Fletcher, Woodstock, Rev. HAMILTON HODGINS WHALEN Cindy and Pat Taziar played for the Kirkton United Church mother and daughter banquet Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Large, London visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Pullman Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Johnson and family, Brooklin, Ontario were weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. John Scott. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ferguson attended the 80th birthday party for James McLachlin at Chateau Gardens, Parkhill Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mills and Brent, Centralia were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. MacLeod Mills, the occasion being Barry’s birthday. Several from the com­ munity attended the Shriners chicken Bar-B-Que at Uniondale, evening. Margery Morley visited Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cann, London. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins attended the Con­ firmation service Sunday in St. James Church, Clan- deboye when their nephews Danny and Darryl Hodgins were Confirmed and the family gathering following the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hodgins, Lucan. Whalen friends and neigh­ bors held a surprise party Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art' Abbott to honor them on the occasion of their 25th wedding an­ niversary, Tuesday. Margery Morley read an address and Maureen Scott presented them with a gift of luggage from the Com­ munity. The “bridal couple” thanked everyone and in­ vited them to their an- niversary dance Friday evening May 19 in the Kirkton Community Centre.
