A delegation from the Grand Bend Chamber of Commerce which is again sponsoring the popular event told council it would be held June 16, 17, and 18. Making the presentation on behalf of the C of C were Tom Webster, Nick Carter and Ron Landrey. The Chamber members said several changes are being made for this year’s program including activities which families can par­ ticipate in and enjoy. Permission was granted to close Main Street from the Village Inn Retreat corner to the beach from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on the Saturday. Activities to take place on the street while it is closed will include bed races and square dancing. A puppet show is also scheduled. A refreshment tent will again be erected on the beach. Tom Webster said a change is being made this year whereby buffalo burgers may be purchased without going into the tent and paying a cover charge. He continued, *‘We changed it last year late on the Friday night when we heard of the problem.” Ron Landrey added, "No minors will be allowed in the tent after 8 p.m.” Deputy Reeve Bob Simpson who suggested more emphasis should be put on family participation said, “a skateboard competition would be an asset. They are fantastic.” Landrey went on to explain that with the consent of the Liquor Control Board some changes would be made in the refreshment tent. Self service will be elminated and waiters will be used to serve drinks. In other business, council: Learned the 1978 tax requisition from County of Lambton Board of Education was $189,858. Leaders are Allan Walper and Allan Turnbull. John Love was elected secretary. Sunday supper guests with Mrs. Lawrence Johnson, Beulah Holt and Mrs. Mae Holt were their neice and granddaughter, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Riddoch and Lisa, Sarnia, when they celebrated Mrs. Holt’s 86th birthday. Mr. & Mrs. Art Webb have returned to Green Acres after spending the winter in Florida. Women’s Institute members are asked to meet at Nola Taylor’s home on the evening of May 11, to plan the coming year’s Women’s Institute program. Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Kading and friends from Meaford returned home last week from a two week holiday in the Barbadoes. Mrs. Raymond Kading stayed with Brian and Karen during their parents holiday. Grand Bend and Grand Cove Estate ladies are continuing their Monday afternoon’ bowling sessions for awhile, at least until warmer weather arrives. Erwin Holt is a patient at South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Flear, Mr. & Mrs. Clarke Kennedy, and Mrs. Don Weigand, attended the South Pacific show at Lucas Secondary school in Lohdon, Wednesday evening. Mark, a grandson of the Flear’s and son of Mr. & Mrs. Ken Flear played a lead singing role in the show. Rev. John Campbell spent several days this week at­ tending special meetings at the Church of God in Kit­ chener. New Church members Welcomed into mem­ bership of Gfrand Bend United Church Sunday morning were, Nelson and Marguerite Perkins, from Donminster United Church, and Gordon and Allison Lambert from Strathmore, United Church Dorval P.Q. Rev. H. Moore’s sermon topic was “It isn’t fair!” Mrs. Morley Desjardine took a solo part in the choir anthem of “My Prayer.” Rev. Moore has a supply of registration forms for Camp Menesetung. Church news Sunday morning at Church of God the service was in . charge of the Gideons, when Edgar Cudmore was guest speaker. Sunday evening the young people had charge of first part of the service. Jacquie Winegarden gave words of welcome and led the singing. Doug Steckle presided at the organ and Kathy Steckle on the piano. Kathy read a poem. Guest speaker was Mrs. John Campbell. During the social time they 1 went bowling at the Grand Bend alleys. Following this they had a business meeting at the Church and a worship service conducted by George Winegarden and John Steckle. This was their last meeting till the fall. Church of God youth group sponsored a family night of bowling at ZUrich, Friday with around 30 attending.
