Unit leader Mrs. Vera Armstrong welcomed all ladies and opened with a message “What is Christianity”. Mr$. Flora Doerr reported on Bible Study and informed all ladies that for the June meeting a bus trip is being planned to Toronto to see some historical buildings plus other interesting sights. Coming events include a buffet lunch for Sorority auivi vwi licit helped April 27 making for another successful smorgasbord. Mrs. Dolores Shapton reported on the conference at Milverton which included girls May 6, UCW Anniversary June 4 with guest speaker Rev. Wesley Ball. Vice-president Mrs. Edith Miller took charge of the service, Mrs. Idena Desjardine played the organ, and led in the singing of the hymn “I’ve Believed the true report”. Mrs. Hilda Eizenga opened the meeting in prayer. The roll call was taken by Mrs. Yvonne Reynold and answered by a verse in the Bible on the word “Believe”. There were 15 present. Mrs. Addie Morlock gave a reading on “Jesus is Coming Soon” and also a reading on a missionary, John G. Patton, who went to preach the gospel to the i cannibals at the New Hebrides Island. Mrs. Susan Cann read a poem and sang a solo. Glen Wright presided for the remainder of the meeting. He informed that it had been the first time he had spoken to UCW ladies, and that his sermons. Each lady was given a working paper on liberation in time of change. Groups were formed and the paper discussed. The change in our culture at least is the change from a man dominated society to that of a society where men J women have equalitya nJ though sometimes different parts to play. Les & Joanne Drury Proprietors Area fashion show draws good crowd The fifth annual spring fashion show sponsored by the Huron Country Playhouse Guild proved to be a huge success as over 300 people were in attendance at the South Huron Rec Centre in Exeter on Wednesday evening. The fashions which were provided by Merry Rags of Grand Bend ran the gamut from spring casual wear to finery suited for a night on the town. Keeping the show moving and providing informed commentary were Mrs. J. Andrews, co-owner of Merry-. Rags and Mrs. J. Schlegel. Performing the modelling chores for the evening were Kay Carruthers, Joanne Dinney, Wendy Elliot, Eileen Frayne, Tracy Homans, Joy Hogg, Beth Jean, Johnston, Rose Maertens and Adrian Rankin. According to Melva Ecker of the Guild, the fashion show has grown larger and larger each year it has taken place and this was the first year that the show was held in the evening. Proceeds from the show will go towards the financing of other Guild activities.
