Noble Grand Mrs. Maggie Campbell presided for the meeting in the Lodge Hall following the banquet, assisted by Mrs. Aldeen Volland R.S.V.G., and welcomed the guests. The president of the Rebekah Assembly Mrs. Jean Bolton was introduced by Mrs. Dorothy Parker Jr. P.N.G. District Deputy President Mrs. Bertha MacGregor was introduced by Mrs. Olga Chipchase L.S.V.G. and Ernie Chipchase, Depart­ ment Inspector for the Patriarch Militant was in­ troduced by Earl Campbell. William Gorrell, Q.C., Grand Lodge Solicitor and other departed members. Mrs. Ruth Campbell sang “Beyond The Sunset” accompanied by Mrs. Irene Smith at the piano. Mrs. Aldeen Volland reported for the visiting committee. Mrs. Ruby Bell R.S.N.G. reported for the Finance Committee. It was an­ nounced a “Dessert Euchre” will be held at Seaforth Lodge, May 10 at 7 p.m. Mrs. Jean Bolton, Assembly President ad­ dressed the Lodge on “Friendship and Getting New Members.” Mrs. TAKE EXPERT CLASS — Rene Boogemans of Hensall and Warren Knight of Brussels took the expert class in the second annual Clinton Kinsmen canoe race. About $1100 was raised in the race which saw area canoeing enthusiasts traverse 23 kilometers of the Maitland River from Auburn to Holmesville. Photo by Brian Richman Following a pot-luck supper enjoyed by 30 members, the meeting was presided over by president, Mrs. Rosa Harris. All repeated the Lord’s Prayer, followed by one minute’s silence in memory of Wilbert Dilling and Ed Munn. A sing-song put all in a cheery mood and the business followed. Appreciation was expressed to Carl Payne for the club the U.S.C.O. Convention in Kingston in August. A quilting and mat hooking day was planned and it was decided to entertain some other clubs in the Fall. Mrs. Hilda Payne and Mrs. Irene Davis were asked to arrange a bus trip to Niagara Falls early in September and Mrs. Dorothy Mickle gave a short account of the Spring Rally of Zone eight held in Exeter or. xpril 12. For entertainment, Bingo was played. Winners were: Mrs. Dorothy Mickle, Dick Taylor, Elgin Rowcliffe, Mrs. Violet Adkins, Mrs. Elizabeth Riley, Mrs. Annie Noakes, Mrs. Annie Reid, Mrs. Alice Ferg and Bert Horton. The door prize went to Percy Campbell and the lucky chair prize to Mrs. Elizabeth Alexander. SPEAK ON SECURITY The service at Hensall United Church last Sunday was conducted by Reverend Don Beck with Dr. Ralph Topp at the organ. Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey, Choir Director, sang the Lord’s Prayer following the Congregational Prayer. The sermon was “On Seeking Security” and was based on the story of Jesus healing the blind man and then picturing Himself as a shepherd. There are many “Security” programmes in life today but the only one that gives real meaning to life is the security promised by Jesus. Jesus can remove spiritual blindness; faith in the Good Shepherd leads us, through the cress, to the Father. No one can snatch us out of the Father’s care. Bertha MacGregor, District Deputy President spoke briefly and introduced the in­ coming District Deputy President Mrs. Kathleen Cuthill of Edelweiss Rebekah Lodge, Seaforth. Bro. Ernie Chipchase brought greetings from the Department. Mrs. Ruby Bell and Mrs. Dorothy Parker were in charge of the program which followed. Mrs. Dorothy Parker Jr. P.N.G. presented Mrs. Bertha MacGregor with a gift. Mrs. Hazel Corbett, Warden and Mrs. Elizabeth Riley Conductor favoured with humorous readings. Mrs. Isobel Rogerson played several musical numbers on the piano. Miss Betty Beer favoured with songs ac­ companying on her guitar. Following the program refreshments were served in the lower hall and a social hour enjoyed. Higher prices At the Hensall Sales Barn last week the supply con­ sisted mainly of heifers and steers; demand was active and prices were again higher. Fat cattle; heifers, $56.50-$62.75, top to $64.75; steers, $59.50-$62.85, top to $64.10. Pigs; weanlings $35.00-$45.00; chunks $47.50- $53.50. GETS MEDAL — Master Warrent Officer Donald A. Orr, right, being presented with his Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal by the Commander of Canadian Forces Communication Com­ mand, Brigadier General R.N. Senior. The presentation took place at Canadian Forces Station Alert where MWO Orr is presently serving a six month attached posting as Electronic Maintenance Chief. Alert is located on the north-east tip of Ellesmere Island, NWT 450 miles from the North Pole, and is the most northerly permanently inhabited settlement in the world. Donald will be returning to Canadian Forces Base Borden in late May to resume his computer maintenance duties at 706 Communication Squadron and rejoin his wife, Margarete. Donald is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Orr who reside in Exeter. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith on Sunday were their son Greg Smith of Guelph, Jordie Smith of London, their grandson and family friend Marianne Badertscher of Switzerland. Mr. Greg Smith will be returning to Switzerland shortly. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sim­ mons returned home after a pleasant holiday in Florida. Mrs. Janet MacKinnon is a patient • in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mrs. Dorothy Munroe, Seaforth was a recent visitor with Mrs. Berth MacGregor. Mrs. Ed Corbett is a patient in University Hospital, London, having undergone surgery Friday. Mrs. Don Gooding and Dale, Parkhill spent the week-end visiting with the former’s mother Mrs. Edgar Munn. Miss Dorothy Farquhar, London spent the week-end with her mother Mrs. Emma Farquhar. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs’. Eric Luther in the death of her brother Mr. Campbell who passed away in Cornerbrook, Newfoun­ dland. Mrs. Luther returned home Saturday after at­ tending the funeral. Winning prizes in a Hensall 4-H group three fund raising draws were Warren May of Exeter, an afghan and pillow and Mrs. Mary Curling group ends activities The Stanley curling club ended their season’s ac­ tivities with a smorgasbord banquet and awards ceremony at Hully Gully last Thursday. There were 102 people at the banquet, including members of the club, spares and their families. Following the banquet, trophies were presented by Clarence Rau and Arnold Taylor, representing the Stanley Township recreation committee. The champion team members were Jack and Lorraine Peck and James Wright and Brian Triebner. Second place finishers were Don and Vina Brodie and Randy and Audrey Collins. The third place team members were Bob and Gail Turner and Gerald and Catherine Horton. Winners of the consolation award were Ross and Donna McBeath and Bill and Marjorie Consitt. Jean Taylor, club president, presented a desk set to the team which ac­ cumulated the most points during the curling season. The team members were Robert and Gail Turner and Gerald and Catherine Horton. Meilis of Kippen, a ceramic figurine. Work on the new fire hall in Hensall is proceeding well. The outer walls are already erected. The arena work is also shaping up well; it is hoped that the kitchen will be ready for use by May and the ice surface will be ready for the Seed Fair and the Fiddler’s Contest in June. Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobal attended the Hood - Vanden Heuvel wedding on Friday at the Lutheran Church in Goderich and the reception afterwards at the home of the parents of the bride. Local ladies at synodical Mrs. Elizabeth Faber representing .Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall, W.M.S. and Mrs. Rachael Schwalm, representing the 10 par­ ticipating counties, attended the Hamilton-London Synodical held in Knox Presbyterian Church, Leamington, guests of the' Chatham Presbyterial. In the 10 years as an executive member of the Synodical, Mrs. Schwalm held office for four years as Literature Secretary and for four years as Children’s Work Secretary and for two years as member without portfolio. Within the 10 years she attended the National Council Board of Canada at Ewart College in Toronto twice and once attended Guelph University secretary training, for a week. Couple honored on anniversary Mr. & Mrs. William Smale were taken by a surprise party Saturday afternoon to celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary, when the family arrived with with buffet lunch and anniversary cake. They were presented with a purse of money and an evening out to the Pineridge Chalet.
