Molly Cox, Norman Speir and Cecil Skinner provided the old-tyme music for Monday’s program. The Goderich Township Women’s Institute Volun teers assisted with the ac tivities. Doug McNall and Dave Sherman from the Kirkton area entertained with a musical program Friday Night. The entertainers provided their own guitar accompaniment and sang several familiar songs and requests, including the Blyth Centennial song. Miss Pearl Gidley expressed the ap preciation of the residents. The Belgrave Women’s Institute were hosts for the April birthday party Wed nesday afternoon. Mrs. Mary Wightman was emcee for the party and introduced the following program. There were musical num bers by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Edgar, step dancing by Colleen Edgar, vocal solos by Clarke Johnston, piano solos by Steve Coultes and Donna Higgins, readings by Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Nicholson, Paul and Mark Coultes. Mrs. Glenn Coultes led a song-a-long accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Norman Coultes. The celebrants were presented with a lovely carnation by the Institute and lunch was served by the ladies. Mrs. Cornish, who celebrated her eighty-eighth birthday on April 18th, thanked all those who had helped with the party. Tour arena at Brussels Ralph and Pat Watson recently gave members of ALPHA Huron a tour of Brussels’ new arena. Members were par ticularly interested in the building’s complete ac cessibility to the han dicapped. An elevator makes it possible for wheelchair users to reach the second floor. Here activities on the ice can be viewed in comfort. Washrooms at both levels are usable by the han dicapped. Congratulations to the people of the Brussels’ area, who planned and built this community centre. At their meeting held in the upper auditorium of Bruss&ls’ arena, ALPHA Huron members planned a survey of accommodation in Huron County suitable for handicapped persons. An advertisement in local papers will alert the public to the survey. A donation was made by the group to the Crippled Children. ALPHA met on Tuesday night at Holmesville Public School. All the meetings are at 8 p.m. and everyone is welcome. For information contact: Elaine Townshend 482-3073, Pat Watson 887-6236, or Mary Howell 524-8642 . Seeds are inexpensive Increase the variety and color in your garden this year. Grow annuals from seed. A dollar or two will buy a few packets of seed that will help create a more in teresting and colorful gar den, says R.A. Fleming, On- tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food hor ticulturist. Plants such as calendula, bachelor’s button, corn flower, coreopsis, cosmos or nasturtium can be sown outdoors as soon as the soil can be prepared. Other annuals such as baby’s breath, nefnophila, scabiosa and nemesia, and vines such as morning glory, sweet pea, thumbergia and the clock vine, can also be grown successfully from seed. Most annuals can be sown from early to mid-May. Calendula, cornflower, larkspur and snapdragon can be Sown as early as late April. Sow the seeds thinly on a well-prepared, moist seed bed.Seeds should be covered lightly and the seedbed kept moist until seedlings emerge.
