Crediton Wl elects slate
of officers for new year

The Women’s Institute
held their annual meeting
Wednesday evening. Roll
Call was answered by
naming an article one
regretted having thrown into
the dump.
Committees read their
annual reports. A bus trip
was planned and a motion
passed to cater for the
Stephen Central graduation
banquet in June. Mrs. Cliff
Kenney reported the district
board meeting and con
ducted the election and in
stallation of officers.
Mrs. Dave Cottel
discussed the motto “Forget
what you can’t do; con
centrate on what you can
do”. Mrs. Peter Martin sang
two numbers “One Day at a
Time” and “Thank God for
the Promise of Springtime”
accompanied by Mrs. Leila
Finkbeiner. Mrs. Ross
Krueger read a poem. After
a contest was conducted,
lunch was served by Mrs.
Kenney, Mrs. Ed Nethercott
and Mrs. Don Davey.

Sunday were from the
wedding of Dick Lord and
Debbie Finkbeiner, the
funeral services of Mrs.
Clara Harris and Mrs.
Milton Ratz, and in memory
of Barry Morlock who died a
year ago April 23.
Anniversary services are
planned for May 21, with the
Jones family of Bradenton,
Florida, as guests. June 11 is
to be Children’s Day with
Mr. & Mrs. Leis of Kit
chener, puppeteer
evangelists, as speakers.
June 18 will be observed as
Memorial Sunday. Vacation
Bible School is scheduled for
the week of August 21.
Personals
Michael Pierce, home for a
week with his parents, Rev.
& Mrs. Bruce Pierce, has
returned to Bradenton,
Florida, to rejoin the
evangelistic team with
which he has been working.
Last Sunday he sang several
numbers during the morning
service at Zion United
Church.
We lost by death two
former residents of Crediton,
Mrs. Clara Harris of London
and Mrs. Lillian Wenzel of
Listowel. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon
Finkbeiner; Mrs. Audrey
Wade, Mrs. Eleanor
Oestricher, Mrs. Lloyd Hey,
Mrs. Hugo Schenk, Mrs.
Alwinna Galloway and Nola
Faist attended the funeral
service for Mrs. Wenzel in
Listowel, Wednesday.
Mrs. Robert Palmer,
Ottawa, is spending several
days with her parents, Mr. &
Mrs. Emmery Fahrner.
Peace of Mind Singers, a
teenage group from London ,
presented a cantata “I’m
here. God is here. Now we
can start” to an appreciative
audience in Zion United
Church Sunday evening.
Mrs. Jeanette Lamport
was in Toronto Friday to
attend her son’s graduation
from Centennial College.
Dale successfully completed
the course of aircraft
maintenance technician.

The Women’s Institute
held their annual meeting
recently at the Elimville
hall. The president Mrs.
Murray Coward opened the
meeting with a
“Father Time.”
Mrs. Tom Hern presented
a gift to Joan Kerslake on the
completion of Advance
Honors, eighteen projects in
4-H and to Lisa Westcott,
Denise Fletcher and Kathy
Cooper for completing 12 4-H
projects giving them
Provincial Honours.
Members were reminded
of a Blossom Tea to be held
at Huronview May 31, and 4-
H Achievement Day April
29 at South Huron District
High School. Everyone is
welcome to the afternoon
program.
The district annual will be
held at Hensall United
Church May 18 with Mrs.
Coward, Mrs. Lome Johns,
Mrs. Ina Skinner and Mrs.
Theron Creery as delegates.
The program committee of
Mrs. Ron Fletcher and Mrs.
Tom Hern had programs at
different intervals
throughout the meeting.
Mrs. Hern read two articles
“Rise and Shine” and “The
Best Things in Life are
free.”
Mrs. Wm Morley and Mrs.
Freeman Horne were ap
pointed auditors
coming year.
A donation was
Exeter Fair. Mrs.
gave a roport of the district
meeting held recently in
Hensall.
Mrs. Howard Pym and
Mrs. Horne offered to help
organize the exhibit for
Kirkton Fair.
The annual meeting was
then held with all conveners
giving a report for the past
year. Mrs. Elson Lynn in
stalled the officers for the
new term.

Quite a number from the
community attended the
craft show held at Lucan
Community Centre recently.
Mr. & Mrs. John Batten
and Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Cooper
and family enjoyed an af
ternoon of bowling followed
by a pot luck supper. This
was organized by the
Ausable River Nomad
Camping group.
Summary Day for the
Women’s Institute short
course “Personalize your
Pattern” was held Tuesday
evening in Clinton. Mrs.
Delmar Skinner wrote the
commentary in verse form
and also read it. The leaders
for this course were Mrs.
Mrs. Emerson Penhale and
Mrs. Theron Creery.
A large number of students
and parents attended Open
House at Usborne Central
School Thursday evening. A
science display was set up in
the auditorium as well as
many displays in the halls of
the school.
A film and oral presen
tation will be given by the
Young Peoples class during
Sunday School. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
