“It is so good to know that
people do care.” These were
the words written in a letter
of appreciation from Mrs.
Lorna McChestney, Senior
Adjuvant at Strathmere
Lodge, Strathroy, to the
Women of the United Church
here.
For the past few weeks
articles have been ac
cumulating at the church for
the use of the handicapped
and emotionally ill folk at the
Lodge. One day last week
they were delivered and as
the thank you letter indicates
were very much ap
preciated.
Although magazines are
now in plentiful supply, other
articles such as greeting
cards, ribbons jewelery,
nylons, styrofoam egg
cartons, quilt patches and
bread ties are worth saving
for a future delivery.
U.C.W. Meet
Mrs. (Rev.) Harley Moore
was hostess for the April
meeting of the United
Church Women. Evelyn
Curts led in the opening
worship service, choosing as
her theme, “Hands.”
For the study of the
Caribbean, Miss Curts in
troduced Mrs. Betsy Bark
man, Parkhill, who
presented a most interesting
illustrated message of the
life and work and need in
Haiti. The president, Mrs.
Olive Horner, chaired the
meeting for the business
session.
Those present answered
the roll call with a verse on
spring. Mrs. Harvey Walper
assisted
serving
coffee at
meeting.
Anglican
The ladies of Grace
Anglican Church held a
successful dessert euchre in
their hall, last Wednesday
afternoon. There were eight
tables at play.
The high scorer was Mrs.
Alwinna Galloway, and the
low, Floyd Enright. Mrs.
Olive Horner captured the
door prize.
Personals
Several couples from here
attended the Masons’
banquet and festivities in the
Parkhill Community Centre,
Friday evening.
Mr. & Mrs. Ken Eagleson
were Toronto visitors over
the weekend.
Mr. & Mrs. Ken Smithers,
Evelyn and Manuel Curts,
and Mr. & Mrs. David
Ferguson and Viola Curts,
London, were Friday dinner
guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ross
Scafe, Granton.
By the way. The price of
beer is up again. The drinker
spoke bitterly, “Water has
killed more people than
liquor ever did.” “You are
raving,” declared the ab
stainer, “how do you make
that out?” “Well to begin
with, there was the flood.”
