The Tax Credit form is straightforward and easy to complete. For many people, the filing of this form will result in either a rebate or a reduction in provincial taxes. The program is a major one. Budgeted this year at an estimated $435 million dollars, close to 60 percent of Ontario’s tax filers can expect to benefit by this program. There are four credits. Homeowners, renters and roomers are eligible for the Property Tax Credit. The Sales Tax Credit may be claimed by anyone over 16 who is not claimed as a dependant on someone else’s income lax return. Senior -Citizens are eligible for the Pensioner Tax Credit. If you made a contribution to a registered Ontario Political party, constituency association or candidate in the 1977 Provincial election and have an official receipt to support it, you may claim the Political Contribution Tax Credit. The Property, Sales and Pensioner Tax Credits are designed to give assistance to moderate income people and senior citizens to offset the impact of property and retail sales laxes. Now's the time to check the farm drainage system Ponded areas and stan ding water often indicate problems in farm drainage systems, says Ross Irwin of the School of Engineering, Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph. “A tile-drainage system is an investment. To justify its cost, it should continue to operate efficiently. Keeping the system open and func tioning properly is necessary for good land drainage.” Professor Irwin says drainage lines of many older systems are spaced too far apart to operate efficiently. Wet patches between ex isting lines is the symptom of this problem. “These areas of standing water can be eliminated if you upgrade the system by splitting. Adding these extra runs of tile between existing lines will make the system more efficient and will drain surface water faster.” Ponded water over tile lines can also indicate broken or plugged tiles below. Farmers can eliminate the poorly-drained areas by digging down and making repairs. Holes or depressions over tiled field are indications that mud and silt have wash ed down into the drains. Tile lines in such areas should be dug up and cleaned. Finally, the drainage out lets should be examined. Outlets and screens should be in place and repaired, “Farmers should make sure outlets are above the bottom of drainage ditches. It's more efficient and lighter than all other production diesel engines. The Rabi breakthrough. Diesel First it is one of the most advanced, fuel efficient engines in the world today. The new Rabbit Diesel engine has transformed a car that uses very little gas into a car that uses no gas at all. Using diesel fuel, it provides out standing driving economy. The VW Rabbit Diesel is the only production model automobile available with a driving economy rating of over 100 kilometers highway on a single gallon of fuel.* It’s the most fuel-efficient car you can buy in North America. 101 Km/gal. highway.* 76 Km/gal. city.* Km/h 115 secs. something you can forget about. Also, diesel fuel acts as a natural lubricant. The result is that diesel engines have a proven record of longer life expectancy. According to Forbes magazine, “Diesels last longer, break down less and emit less carbon monoxide.1’** The Rabbit Diesel is fast. Diesel powered cars, historically, have never been known for getting off the line in a big hurry. The Rabbit Diesel has changed all that. Automotive writers from the editorial staff of Auto Zeitung (Auto Journal) speed-tested the Rabbit Diesel under the scrutiny of the French automobile commission. Under grueling trials, the Rabbit Diesel established 31 World Records for 1500cc diesels. The Rabbit Diesel will never need a major lune-up. Ever. The Rabbit Diesel engine is based on the same block as the gasoline engine, but it’s missing a few things. You won't find spark plugs, an ignition coil, a distributor, points, condenser or carburetor. The diesel engine doesn't need them. So a major tune-up is The best thina about the Rabbit that it comes in a Rc IS LJLU The Rabbit we put the diesel engine in is the identical car we put the gas engine in. Which makes it the most affordable diesel- powered car around. And, like the Rabbit, the Rabbit Diesel has more useable carrying space than any other car its size. It also has front wheel drive, independent suspension on all four wheels, rack and pinion steering, a dual diagonal braking system with front wheel discs, steel belted radial tires, fully adjustable reclining bucket seats, and an elec trically heated rear window defroster. In fact, the Rabbit with the diesel engine, like its gas- driven twin, is packed with enough technolog ical innovations to fill a book. When the gas-powered Rabbit was first introduced, automotive writers called it “The car of the future". And soon, there were all kinds of cars on the road trying to look like the Rabbit. So it’s fair to suppose that in the years ahead, you’ll probably be hearing a lot about diesels from other car manufacturers. Just remember you heard it here first.
