TO IRONWOOD COURSE OPENING APRIL 29 (Weather Permitting) Well it will soon be time to get the golf season underway. It is a pleasure to extend an invita­ tion to you to come out and play at Ironwood. Special club activities are being planned for the men, women and juniors and we hope you will consider becoming a member. Plans are uriderway to organize clubs for the men, women and juniors and it looks like an exciting season ahead. T-A phcto Owner Gob Dow and manager Doug Ellison have made a number of changes to improve conditions and facilities at the Ironwood Golf Course for the coming season. Heading the list of ac­ complishments is the ap­ pointment of Bob Martin as club pro. Bob comes to Ironwood with 20 years of experience in golf and presently is the pro at East Park Golf Gardens in London. He started his career as assistant pro at Sunningdale ir London in 1957. Martin said the only changes in the course itself will be changes in traps and the planting of some ad­ ditional trees. He added, “This is cer­ tainly a challenging course with six water crossings in nine holes. It’s a sporty course and kept in good shape.’’ “We will be changing the fee structure this year to accommodate everyone’s budget including a nine hole fee,” Martin commented. Martin would like to organize more local industry tournaments without disturbing membership or green play. He will be setting up the pro shop and teaching golf to interested members. He expects to spend a couple of days per week at Ironwood. An open house and clinic are slated for May 1. Group instruction will also be available to a maximum of 20 persons per hour. The main clubhouse at Ironwood has been com­ pletely redecorated and the original farm house has been renovated to accommodate the ladies. Barb Dow, Brenda Flet­ cher and Janet Smale will make up the clubhouse staff while Gib Dow and groundskeeper Don Gifford will be roaming the course doing their best to keep the course in the best possible shape. Three organizational meetings are planned for next week. The juniors will meet Monday, April 24 at 7 p.m. the men will get together Tuesday, April 25 at the same time and the ladies will organize Wednesday, April 26 with a pot luck dinner at 6.15 p.m. MONDAYS - JUNIORS' DAY TUESDAYS - MEN'S DAY WEDNESDAYS - LADIES' DAY MASSEY FERGUSON OPEN SAT., MAY 13 JUNIORS ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING We are meeting with a few of last year's Junior members and are planning what will be an in­ teresting program for boys and girls 17 years of age and under. All boys or girls interested in hearing about our junior program or joining the club are asked to meet at the club house on Monday, April 24, 1978 at 7:00 P.M. He has 20 years experience in golf and we are happy to have him with us. Bob will be setting up the Pro Shop and supplying us with a wide variety of equipment for your golfing needs. As well, he will be teaching golf to interested members. GREEN FEES Weekdays - $3.50 for 18 holes. ' - $1.00 for each extra 9 holes. i and 5 l Meet the Members Day Sunday, May 7 Tentative plans are being made for a meet the members day for the men and women in the club. Suggested procedure is to have the men draw for partners and begin play early Sunday and the women also draw for partners and play following the men. Following the golf, a potluck supper. Look for details posted at the club or in the newspaper. Parent-child tournament Parent child tournament is set for Sunday, May 28. This tournament is scheduled to begin at 1.00 p.m. Any combination of partners possible. Open to members and their guests (i.e. mother, father, son, daughter). If you can’t find a partner let the president of ladies, mens, or juniors help you find one. Ironwood Mens Open is set for Saturday, June 24. We have moved our open tournament to the spring in the hopes of getting better weather. The tournament is open to men 18 years of age and over. Plan to keep this date open. Lets try for 100 golfers this year. Men’s Club to set up plans for this tournament. A two ball-foursome is planned Sunday July 9 for the men and women of the club. Starting time is 1.00 p.m. Find a good man or woman for this one. Lockers Approximately 40 small lockers have been pur­ chased. They are suitable to store shoes, sweaters, golf balls, towels, etc. Available to men, women and juniors. There will also be some large lockers available for men, women and juniors. These lockers are suitable for 2 people. Because of the limited number available, please try to share one. Janet will be working with Barb Dow and Brenda Fletcher to give you, the best of service. As well, owner, Gilbert Dow and his able greenskeeper Don Gifford will be roaming the course doing their best to keep the course in the best possible shape. Doug Ellison will also be returning as part-time manager and will assist the men's and women's club and the junior's as well as help with tour­ naments and assist Bob Martin in the Pro Shop. WOMEN'S CLUB HOUSE Gib, Don and Barb have been busy over the winter fixing up the house for a new ladie's club room. / 1 Weekends and holidays - $4.75 for 18 holes. . -$1.25 for extra 9 holes. Special 9 hole rates - $2.75 for weekdays. -$2.50 after 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays. Special Student Rates and Special Senior Citizen Rates - $2.50 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 18 holes if tee off before 4:30 p.m. (students rate for students 18 & under - student ’ card necessary.)
